  2. Not really. Will they grow cannabis? Probably....buy budget lights and get budget weed.

Better to save up and get a good light. You’ll be glad you did.

I used to hate on Mars Hydro, but not anymore. I’m using one of their lights right now and it is kicking ass. Check them out, as well as Spider Farmer.

Those companies produce what most consider “budget” lights, but they all use the newest components now anyway.

  3. Or look into running a CMH or HPS fixture. They can be found for pennies on the dollar used almost everywhere.

  4. What's your budget? I bought the 100 HLG and it works great for the small space I have. Pulled 97 grams off my first grow and I stressed that plant out hard so I imagine I could have hit 150 grams or better.

  5. for a few dollars more, the hlg 135w kit is superb and can be turned down to 100w. I like it because it uses the A type meanwell. I have had nothing but trouble with the dimmer knobs attached to the B style. The A never drifts. That is one thing that looks good on the hlg 100 driver. How hot does your hlg 100 run with no heat sink?

  6. It doesn’t need one. The aluminum board the diodes are affixed to provides sufficient heat dissipation.

That’s a great suggestion from talkative about the QB-135 kit. That’s a great light.

  7. Most people hate on Mars and spider farmer or anything chinese because their told to hate on them. From my readings mars and spider farmer owners are happy and have always been.

  8. Well, I can confirm that Spider Farmer is a legit organization with great product(s). I was a light tester for Spider Farmer about two years ago when I started my commercial grow. They are a good company to work with — very supportive with good customer service. I ran several tests with their SF4000 against one of my HLG-550V2. The Spider Farmer SF4000 was about 20% - 25% brighter than the HLG-550V2, and also generated less heat than the HLG light because the SF4000 divided the 480 watts between two Meanwell drivers instead of the single 480w driver that HLG was putting on their HLG-550 lights at the time.

Spider Farmer entered the market as a provider of quality budget-friendly grow lights, and several other companies have followed them down that road (ViparSpectra, Mars Hydro, Vivosun — which is Amazon's brand — MaxiSun, and many others). It has really driven the price(s) down considerably on LEDs.

I am especially interested in Mars Hydro's newer SP series lights. The SP3000 looks like a BEAST. I want one of those for my 2 x 4 flowering space.

  9. I wish I could have got better but, I got a lowes gift card for my bday and they only offered that for led grow lights lol. At the time I thought I was just getting some crappy light. Boy was I wrong. But, to answer your question the the driver is mounted to the top of the board due to space reasons but it only gets up to 90 maybe 100 degrees. It performed fantasticly for me the first run with no dimmer. I just need to build a box that will fit through my closet door lol. The one I made this last time turned out to be a couple inches too wide to fit through the door and I didn't find out until it was finished and I had seeds in soil. So that run went down in the bed room. Haha.

  10. Yes if you don't care about electric cost, you can get a 1000 watt hps with the veg light new for $189.00 great deal for a true 1000 watts from the wall.

  11. Yeah, no I definitely want to stick with LED. Whenever I own my house I want to install some solar/wind generators and hopefully run a grow room for free. Like the only cost will be initial seeds.

  12. My first impression was that the light is an outmoded blurple.
But on closer examination it looks like it will work.

What I see is 4 white light COBs with added red and blue diodes.
I grow some plants with white light COBs, and they work great.

If the price is right that light is an acceptable candidate.
I'd be interested if it cost less than about $150, which would be about $0.70 per watt.

Photons are photons whether they come from a cheap light or expensive light.
Correct spectrum and good efficiency are what distinguish good lights from bad.

The most popular lights are overpriced because of their hype.
