Leaving plants in the dark

  1. High all,

    I heard from a few folks that you should let your plants be in total darkness for the last few days before you harvest. Can anyone back this up and explain why? Thanks!

  2. 48 hours in the dark will stop photosynthisys and reduce that planty taste.

  3. So just to be sure for information sake; this darkness thing is a good thing with the experienced gardeners? Gracia's and all take care;

  4. 3 reasons that I have heard of....

    1. Chlorophyll production ceases without light.

    2. Trichome production takes place mostly at night.

    3. Less or no light encourages faster maturing.

  5. I think those 3 reasons justify a good enough reason to leave your plants in darkness before harvest.

    Has anyone tried this and had it make a difference??

  6. yes ive tried it and it does make a difference, a little tougher to trim,
    the way i understand it is when the plant realizes the sun didnt come up it starts trying to defend itself by producing more trichomes, THC... I also stop the water. they really do frost right up... super sticky

    Nice!!!! Thanks

    So let me ask this question:

    I have a good number of plants crammed up under my 1000W. I usually have to cut the tops of my plants and then let the lower buds chill under the light for another week or 2 to mature. Would it be ok to put the plant into darkness for the 2-3 days, cut the tops off, then put the rest of the plant back under the light to mature more?? Would this stress it too much??

  8. ii think you will find he dark helps the lower ones mature, can you ty them back now to let the light thru?

  9. No i cant tie th back. I just have too mnay plants under one light. Once I cut some tops then I can have some more space created.
