Leaves shrivelling w/pics

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by birmas, Oct 8, 2011.

  1. Hi GUys,

As you can see from the pics, one of the leaves has shrivelled really badly. This occurred since last night!!

    PH: 6.5
    EC: 1.6
    RH: 47%

Can anyone please tell me what I have done wrong? Happy to provide more information!

  2. Please tell us about the rest, such as nutes, lights, temp etc.

  3. Temp (cur/max/min): 27.9/28.3/19.8

Nutrients using 1/4 strength mix for an EC reading of 1.6.

The light is a 400W MH on 18/6

    Thanks! :)

  4. Sorry one other thing that may be relevant is that I have been mixing in PH Lower solution (diluted 10ml into 1L water) into my reservoir to force the PH to 5.6/5.8. It keeps creeping back up to 6.1/6.2 overnight.

  5. What is the water source ???

  6. Hi Freak, thanks for answering again!

The water source is tap water. I do the following:

    * Leave in bucket for 24hrs (supposed to get rid of chlorine)
    * Add nutrient solution. 1/4strength only at the moment. (On the label it says "Full Strength" is 2600PPM-EC4.0)
    * Test PH and EC. Adjust PH using diluted raise/lower solutions until its 5.7/5.8
(PH test and adjustments done daily)

I am using a drip feed recirculating system that I built myself. There is an airstone in my reservoir + a water heater set to 24c.

Watering schedule is currently set to run:
    * During daylight hours
    * On for 30minutes
    * Off for 1hours

  7. P.s. I have been changing my reservoir weekly. I am due to clean and replace it today so would be happy to make any adjustments to this process.

Incidentally.. this is the only plant that has a shrivelled leaf like that (out of 3 plants all the same age) The other two are a different strain.

  8. Oh shit!! I might have just figured it out..

The plug for my water pump wasn't sitting in the timer socket properly!! :( :(

Could that damage to the plant have been caused by LACK of water??

  9. As long as the roots werent exposed to the air for too long.

While were talkin roots here, why dontcha have a look at them, just to see or feel
any discoloration, necrosis or slime ???

  10. I'm not sure how I could do that? The plants are planted in hydroton clay pellets. Should I upend the pot, as if I was going to transplant to a bigger pot?

  11. I had a look at the bottom of the pots (There are some small drain holes at the bottom of the pot). I can just see roots starting to appear at those holes and they appear white in colour. I'm a bit worried to go digging through the pellets in case I damage the root system?

Thank you again for your help Freak. Really appreciate your time today.

  12. Sorry, I should have clarified myself.

The check of the bottom wuz right. They sound healthy,
so we can rule that root thing out.

You are most welcome. We'll figure this thing out lol.

  13. Ya know, Ive been thinkin and lookin
and Im inclined to say that it could
    be a deficiency.

If youre at a quarter strength on the nutes,
then that means your ppm is only at 650.

I suggest raising it to 800ppm and watch.

    What do u think ???

Are u able to do that while maintaining the stable Ph ???

  14. Yes I certainly will try it! I am going to give everything a clean today anyway and will swap out to a fresh batch of nutrient solution. will try half strength!

I have a feeling though, that timer plug could have come loose anytime yesterday - so the plants would have gone at the very least 12 hours, and up to 18hours without any water!

It could be my imagination but they look a bit better since they had a feed just before. They are due for another 30mins of water in 25mins.

  15. Definitely yes on the lack of water, that is a dehydration sign
with the withered leaves and all.

If u look deeper into the blades tho, u can see the coloured
blotchings showing up faintly. This should subside once u
    bump up them ppms.

I think this turns out that u had a thirsty girl, and now have a hungry girl :).

I like when things turn out like this.

+ rep for your caring growing attitude.

    Please keep us updated.
