Leaves canoeing down and roots popping out

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Estagrow, Jul 23, 2019.

  1. So I have some questions on what’s going on with my plants. Leaves on the top are canoeing downward. What could that be? Only been watering, no nutrients yet.

Also, roots are starting to come out the bottom of the smart out and a tiny bit on the side. Could this be the time to transplant to a bigger pot? Water seems to be holding for a while and the soil seems a bit compact. Using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and have just been watering so far, no nutrients yet. 2. Is there a fan in the grow room? How often do you water?

  3. I have a fan, there is not one running currently. I have LED lights on 24 hours. Should I adjust light time and run the fan? I topped like 2 days ago so I’m not ready to set them to flower.

Also I water like once every 2 days? I haven’t watered for like 3 days though because the soil seems moist still and compact

  4. Looks a bit like Nitrogen toxicity.

  5. I was thinking this too but OP said its been nute free....

  6. Yeah so the Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil has nutrients and all in it already that should last a while. I haven’t started feeding them nutrients yet. I was waiting until leaves started yellowing before feeding

  7. The Fox Farm soil he's using still has enough nutes to last the plant a couple more weeks or so. In soil, deficiencies don't necessarily show on a plant right away. Some plants start showing signs of toxicity even when using Fox farm soil because of how "hot" it can be sometimes. This toxicity must've started happening a week+ ago and is now showing the obvious signs.

@Estagrow When did you first started noticing the leaves looking that way?

  8. I’d say maybe like 3 days ago I noticed that one or two leaves were doing this. Now it’s more of them.

  9. If things get worse, perhaps a flush will help. However, I don't know if I would suggest a transplant into a new pot with new, fresh soil just yet simply because of the nitrogen toxicity already present. You may end up with nute burn as well.

  10. That's definitely over fertilization I did it to one of mine last grow.
    I would flush heavily.
I didn't realize how badly over feeding hurts yield until it happened to me.
OP notice how the leaves are thick and leathery feeling? Too much nitrogen .

You could have got a hotter than most bag of soil or that plant might just be extra sensitive to it

  11. I’ve never had ANY problem with ff ocean forest. I’ve been using it forever. At least 500 plants, at least.

  12. Then you must be doing something right lol. I've seen threads on here of people not using it right and get nute burn pretty early in veg.

  13. I've seen dozens of threads on here as well of people saying they had this problem. Alot of people mix the Happy Frog with the Ocean forest 50/50 because they believe the Ocean forest is too hot.

Exactly correct. I learned that's the best soil mix if you want to avoid nute burn using FFOF soils. I've even known some growers who first fill the pot half ways with the OF then fill the rest with Happy Frog. So the young roots first get a taste of the less hotter of the two soils, then as she gets bigger, they'll start taking in the nutes from the bottom soil.

  15. lol I guess so.
I clone using peat puck things then into ffof. I don’t fill any pot. I always leave lots of room for more ffof as feeding.
I’m really surprised anyone has trouble. I’m ghetto all the way.
    Good luck
