One of my seedlings has brownish looking burns on the edges of it's first (lowest) set of leaves- the top/ new leaves are fine. It is directly under one of the cfl's in one of those aluminum-reflected utility lights- about 3" distance. I moved the light up a little and am just wondering anyone else knows what could have caused it. By the way it's not fert burn- organic topsoil w/ no ferts or nutes yet. Thanks
when is the last time you checked soil and water PH level? It also could be hot spots, is it actuly aluminum foil as the CFL reflector?
It is not foil, but one of those light fixtures that comes with a metal reflector about 8" in diameter- it is a very lightweight metal= i assumed its alum. Also, I have been using bottled water and have not checked any pH whatsoever. Thanks
sorry for the delayed reply, stepped out for a smoke and forgot you got exaust/intake fans on your grow box? do you have a regular fan inside the grow box? Im thinking its most likely heat stress, looks alot like nutrient burns... check this out, it will most likely help you alot.. http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1111
Yea check your PH, I doubt it has anything to do with lighting burn as you are using fluoros. also how old are they?
Whenever just the tips would brown and not the rest of the fan leaves, that has meant fert burn. I guess just keep usin the water and no pre-ferted soil. A little distilled water could help as well. Piney
I had the same problem and it turned out to be fert burn from the soil I was using. I'm guessing that your not using organic soil, I transplanted to organic and the problem cleared up! Hope this helps!
They are at about 3 weeks. I really don't know how it could be fert burn though. The soil is some that has been in large pots outdoors for about 2 years. I haven't added anything to it. THanks
You're talking about the cotyledons? The very first leaves that sprout out? Those are supposed to turn yellow and fall off. No worries.
