Im wondering if you left maybe one or two lower nugs on a plant , while harvesting the rest. Would the buds you leave produce seeds? I just thought of this because theres a tiny seed forming in one of the top nugs i chopped already. Thanks for any input
Any calyxes left on the plant need to be pollinated to produce viable seeds. If what you're seeing is a seed and is truly viable then there is (or at least was) some small amount of pollen in the air but I wouldn't count on random pollen particles for seed production.
Not sure of the exact situation but I have heard of this. So I'm thinking yes, but have not attempted.
That would make good sense I had heard of doing that but it was if im not mistaken an outdoor grow. I wonder if it would be possible to use harvested mature male plant to later pollinate yourself in this way for the sole purpose of seed production and continuing genetics.
Hey Nottatumor, You can collect and store pollen from male plants, I like your idea here and will keep it in mind for maybe doing fem seed with collodial silver spray on popcorn sucker buds. I think you have to store the pollen in the freezer until ready to use but could be mistaken there is some info in the forums about storing pollen just cant remember where lol. I used to use paper lunch bags then used a small brush to put on buds.
I would strongly advise not to try this, all it takes is a few grains of pollen to pollinate your entire flower room. If you have pollen in your grow room, you will need to take everything out and clean the entire room, because it can stay in there for multiple grows. Dont make this mistake. Plus the seeds you get are going to be all over the place as far as phenotypes go. If you wait till after you harvest, its gonna be way to late to pollinate. you gotta pollinate before the buds appear. I would suggest doing a lot more homework on this subject before even attempting this. seeds are easily obtained safely online or better yet just clone. Its very easy to do and you know exactly how the plant will act, cause its Identical to the mother, ie flower time, stretch, potency, yield. whatever you decide to do, research, research, then research some more. this web site has everything you need to know about growing marijuana, and 10 people that have tried it and their outcomes, positive and negitive. it is invaluable to any grower, new or experianced, all you have to do is find it or ask good luck and have fun
Logy is correct, pollen can get in anywhere ..that said I have done this as part of my 'breeding program', see a plant that shows extraordinary talent then breed from it, by fertilizing a lone lower bud, Once 95% of the plant is thru bud, remove plant to it's own room, carefully paint pollen on the target bud, and cover for 2-3 days, as per Logy be very careful, on not spraying or coughing at the wrong time, loose pollen is Hellish! Although at this stage I'd be more concerned about those seeds appearing at the top of your plant, perhaps a herm?, perhaps 'wild' pollen in your vent system? ...Better to find out? peace "V"
im in a town with a ton of growers , of that i am sure. So it could be very possible pollen is in the air. Or I might have shocked it during the grow, a couple a small problems occurred,
ya i know its not hard to Purchase seeds and clones ,for ridiculous jacked up prices. My point was since i think it might be hermying, I could save some $$$ gambling on the genetics of the seeds i produce right?basically a bagseed grow right,? And about cleaning the grow area encase of male pollen , i hav a on going spider mite infestation so im making the rooms spotless after this harvest anyways.
my bad, I mistook you as a very rookie grower, I didnt mean to make it sound like you didnt know what you were doing.. I thought you ment that if you just left your lower buds after you harvested the tops that they would magically produce seeds. Careful using those hermi seeds cause they will have a genetic disposition to hermi again, not that it is 100%, but more so than a feminized seed. Brother I feel you on the spider mites, If I knew that spidermites would be costing me $1000s of dollars over my life time ,when I was younger, I would have no idea what you where talking about. They are a constant presence in my indoor garden, and have never gone 100% away. I cut my clones off my flowering plants after a week into flower, so they are never gone.. I find the best way to deal with them is to lower your temps, I spray with a combo of asamax, label strenghth and pyrethrine .20 concetrate, label strenght. I find that a combo of both gives me the instant knockdown of the pyrethrine with the long lasting effects of azamax, it works by slowly starving the bastards. I spray them twice during flower, Once at week 1, than again at week 4. this is the only way I have delt with them, and I have tried everything on the market. The best thing for spidermites, is the lower temps, it slows their ability to reproduce. Funny, I just had a mental picture of two spider mites banging. dirty little bastards. If you do a search on them you will see how many people battle them
would it be possible to collect pollen from multiple strains and say pollinate the bottom half of a female with pollen from one strain, and than pollinate the other half with another strains pollen? lol thats a bit confusing to read!
well...if it keeps happening, and you thinks it's pollen in the air, capping all your intakes into the tent with dust shrooms MIGHT help... Amazon.com: 6IN DUST SHROOM: Patio, Lawn & Garden i say "might" because the dust shroom says it can filter everything "down to .1 micron" and this is from the wiki about pollen: "Wind-borne pollen grains can be as large as about 90–100 µm." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollen that's .09 to .1 microns....so, it might help....unsure if it will block it though....it seems to be a little hard to find how big cannabis pollen is....if cannabis pollen happened to be bigger than .1 micron, you would be golden... the scientists studying cannabis pollen probably smoked fatties and forgot to write their findings down
