learning guitar/favorite songs to play

  1. i just picked up the guitar a month or so ago, i take a class at school and get to play every day. i really like it, i used to play drums, and guitar is quite different. i got a bunch of chords down, some basic rhythms and what not, and i've been working on learning some songs through tab lately. i learned some basic Nirvana shit, Kurt usually didn't play any hard stuff. now i'm trying to learn some 311, because the fingerings are still easy, but its just faster. i'm wondering what everyone's favorite songs are to play, or if anyone has reccomendations for songs to learn that can improve my skills. thanks.

    edit: acoustic :p

  2. I'm allergic to accoustic guitar...sorry. I just can't be in the same room with someone who plays those dreadful songs, preferably drunk and melancolic...gives me the creeps.

But I must admit i've done the same thing before. I remember when Extreme released "More than words" and I learned the whole shebang. I never slept alone at a campfire :D

  3. I know some acoustic songs.. i used to play.. well still do.. lets see what i can remember:

Kansas - Dust in the Wind
    Equalizer - Sweet Mary
Bob Marley - No woman no cry
    Counting Crows - Mr. Jones
    Dave Matthews - Stay
The Get up Kids - Out of reach
Led Zepplin - Babe im gonna leave you
    - Stairway to heaven

dude i'd give you some more.. i just can't remember right now!

  4. I remember NFB (Nice Fuckin' Ballad) by Anthrax was always a hit. And the great song of indifference by Bob Geldof...

  5. I can play bass like a motha fucker, but guitar im medicore at best. best though are some of the classics, by that to me I mean like dust in the wind, house of the rising sun, and smells like teen spirit lol

  6. Yeah, Stay by Dave Matthews Band is a great song. I am actually learning this right now and when I saw the post by Mystic, all I could do was nod my head in agreement and smile. Anyways, some Radiohead might suit your tastes. My favorite is pretty easy, True Love Waits, but it has always been the best way to get in a girl's pants.
