Sup guys first time grower here I improvised a lot with this grow and scavenged for a lot of my materials... the only thing holding my rig together was clear tape.... which ran out during the middle of construction and I had to make do with other means. I'm already 2 weeks into my grow, but I have pics and a grow log since seeds.... was just too high to bother with posting a thread So heres wat happened... I decided to order seeds after much hesitation, but a long T-break convinced me to buy two autoflowering northern lights seeds After a long wait, they finally arrived, however, the same day I got my seeds in the mail, I also happened to pick up some very potent hash... ends up I forget about the seeds for a week until the hash runs out Once sober... I decide to germinate the seeds without having made any preparations. I soaked the two seeds in a cup of water and both of them sunk within a few hours. I was anxious to plant them, but I haven't bought any soil, and the stores have closed by now! The next day I hurry to the local retail store to get some soil... ended up planting them in two halves of aluminum cans. One of them ended up sprouting, the other one didnt sprout for a week and I gave up on it.
my babies.... yes... im using two pieces of paper to reflect light... for now... and I'm also using an incandescent table lamp LOL,I know I know, but all i had at the time improvise 2 days of anxious waiting... morning of the third day, one of them sprouted! HUZZAH
Hey just plant them in full soda cans. And you can do it easily without making any sharp edges. What you do is take a soda can, and a can opener. And then just use it on the soda can lol. Its weird but it works like a charm. I start most of my small ones in monster cans now. Gives them some depth for roots to grow. What light specifically? Like wattage of the bulb and the light spectrum? 2700k? 6500k? It matters.
Day 3 above soil I'm still using the incandescent desk lamp for lighting so far. I've added a small led flashlight to help out.... any light I can get! My little seedling stretched a bit during the first three days, but after covering up the stem with soil, and putting the plant by the window when the sun rises, it began looking healthy again! Hi! Thanks for the advice, but I probably wont be using soda cans next time. I'm already two weeks into the grow, however, at this point I was using an incandescent desk lamp and an led flashlight.... with a few hours of winter sun by the window as soon as I wake up... I know kinda pathetic so far but it gets better trust me!
Extremely recommend that you change your incandescent bulb to a cfl. Incandescents arent used because of the high heat and someone can Probally explain it better than I but the light it produces can't be used by the plant. Don't forget to keep the lights close to prevent stretching. Good luck. Edit: I like what you did in response to stretching.
Day 5 I had a major breakthrough today, I realized my floor lamp was actually using a cfl bulb... I tinkered around with it, and it became my lighting rig lighting so far : 23w cfl total money spent so far: <$10 -soil -pot
Days 6 - 8 After completing my makeshift grow "box" and putting my seedling under the new cfl watt, it grew very quickly 6 7 8 shot from above!
Day 9 This was the day I revamped my setup, added a fan and everything. Uses a shoebox, the white inside of a textbook cover, and a cardboard box as support for my bent over floor lamp The fan is a 12V pc fan scavenged from an old broken computer. It's powered by a cellphone charger. I cut up the cellphone charger and connected the red and black wires to the corresponding wires on the pc fan, I left the fan control wire and the other wires alone. Fan worked fine. Everything is held together by either clear tape, or wedged into place using friction super ghetto rig... It's also kinda stealthy, I can just put a sweater over it and you can see nothing!
your plant needs a more stable home... check out this similar project. a closet grow with no expense has a lil info on how to make a free good little box home for your plant http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-grow-journals/1017449-closet-grow-round-one-[lst].html
Yep up until yesterday ( day 13 above ground) I was supplementing my plant with sunlight everyday. I upgraded my box on day 14 ( today ) which you will see in about 10 minutes when I post it
Some pictures from the morning of day 10 another beautiful shot... Tell me, how is the quality of the pictures? Cuz... true to form, I am using a cellphone camera
Nice! It's fun growing with almost no cost, you have to be resourceful with your materials! Ill be keeping an eye on your grow, its almost exactly like mine, low cost, household materials, and stealth grow
I decided to LST my plants, even though I've read that autos dont respond well to training due to their short life cycle, I have to keep them as short as possible due to my limited space.
Day 14 Finally we are caught up to where I currently am, which is week 2 since sprout. Right now as of this post we are at the evening of day 14. Today I went down to the store and bought some proper light sockets. I got rid of the stupid floorlamp and revamped my setup. I scavenged another 23w cfl bulb from around the house and added it to my lighting rig. Heres what my current setup looks like Heres the exhaust hole in the corner Heres where my air intake is when covered by the lid. The lid is the lid of a shoebox, with the inside covered in reflective material This is what you see when you remove the lid. The fan is wedged into place, held together with nothing but friction. Because my tape ran out. Improvise And here she is! I bought myself a new hydrometer. Temperature steady at 80F and humidity hovering above the 50% mark. The reflective material I used for the inside of my growbox is actually..... a white paper shopping bag. I made it roughly fit the inside of the box, and tore holes in it for the bulbs to fit through... This particular hole leads to the exhaust. And yes... part of the weight of my lights is supported by red string... theyre tied to the top of the box. The other side of my lights are wedged into a slit cut into the cardboard... held together by friction once again... Here it is covered by a blanket. Quite inconspicous I would hope. Lighting: 2 x 23w CFL warm white bulbs Ventilation: 12v cpu fan Money spent so far: around $25 So this is my situation so far. What do you guys think about my setup? Is my temperature/humidity okay? Should I stop LST with my auto? Any feedback and advice is welcome.
pretty ghetto setup haha. I like the slow progression of little effort at the start, then slowly realizing your baby needs more love I like the grow. Im subbed.
Reminds me of my first and the grow improvements that her area went through. Doesn't that cardboard sketch you out? My grow is surrounded by reflectix and nothing else and I still worry about lights being too close. You can peep my grow in the sig maybe you'll get an idea or so. I only spent ~$120 in total yielded 14g and starting my2nd with the same setup. so it goes along with you Lazy Stoner Improvisation. Hope you are enjoying your traffic, I have always had next to none haha.
Day 15 Just woke up and checked on my plants. Last night I made my growbox into what looks like a little bedside cabinet. It's quite nice, I can put my stuff on it and everything, just like a real bedside cabinet Its funny some people turn their bedside cabinets into growboxes, I turn my growbox into a cabinet Say good morning to my girl! This is her 15th morning above soil. The temperature is still steady at 80F, which is cool. The humidity dropped from 50% to 40% over the night, even though I left a shot glass of water in there. Here she is by the window, looking pretty as usual.
