Lava rocks in hydro machines

  1. I'm wondering If you could put a few lava rocks in the water if you use a Hydro machine. Good idea? advantages/disadvantages? opinions anyone?

  2. Lava rock works well as a medium in hydro.(esp. for those who are allergic to grow stores)
Beyond that, there is no reason to use it that I'm aware of.
BTW: If you do use lava rock as a hydro-medium, rinse the SHIT out of it first. Trust me.

  3. Better yet, Boil them for half an hour.

  4. that wont boil out all the properties that the plants and their roots need for nutrients?

  5. Lava rock is not used as a significant source of any nutrients that I'm aware of. I used it as a medium because of it's low weight, high surface area and general availability.

  6. nutrients come from your water. Boiling just assures they're sterile, free of dust, dander, mold, insects.
