late blight help needed!!

  1. Friends, just woke up to find one of my beloved tomato plant badly affected with late blight. Been pruning a few leaves here and there for a week but last days heavy rain got the best of her!!
I live in Canada, so fungicide access is a little limited compared to US... I know Neem oil would be useless, but what else would you recommend? Bordo? Bonide? Chop the whole plant before it spreads to the whole garden?

    • Use protectant fungicides such as chlorothalonil (e.g., Bravo, Echo, Equus, or Daconil) and Mancozeb (Manzate) for conventional gardeners and commercial producers.

  2. I'm in northeast USA, and the rain has been bad this year, high humidity most of the summer.

  3. That's fast man! Thank you! I can find Daconil easily so I'll try to save the bad one and do preventive spray on the surrounding plants.

  4. The same thing happened to me here in NY state. I have sprayed my plants all year with the same IPM as my MJ plants. Yet, I was hit with late blight this year. I use copper fungicide to stop its spread and it's been working to save the tomatoes. Although, the plants sure look ugly..

  6. Looks like it will be copper because up the border even if they are legal Daconil and Manzate types of fungicide aren't sold anywhere. Not even on amazon. Found some Manzate powder that could be shipped from India to Canada at 35 (US)$a pound plus shipping, so No Thanks. It'll have to wait until next week end for Bordo...

In the past, I have been using the Tomatoville gardening forum and a lot of folks over there are using a diluted bleach spray for bacterial and fungal disease on garden crop. Recipe call for 7 ounces of 5% bleach for 1 gal of water. I'll give it a shot tonight.

  7. I'm a member of Tomatoville too. I can't remember the last time I signed in or even my screen name without looking it up. There are some very talented growers over there.

  8. I have a couple fungicide recipes from my ornamental gardener friends in Alberta. You might be able to find this stuff in your neck of the woods. These are Bordeaux style.
    • 3 1/3 tablespoons copper sulfate powder form
    • 10 tablespoons hydrated lime powder form
    • 1 gallon water
    And
    • 2 ml Wilson's Bordo Copper Spray Powder
    • 2 ml Laters Phaltan (Folpet 50%)
    • 1 litre water

    • And then this simple but effective, and for sure easily source able.
    • Basic Fungicide Recipe
      • 1 ts baking soda
      • 1 litre water
      • 1 ts dish soap or safer's soap
      Good Luck
