Laptop wont recognize new hard drive

  1. I have an Asus k60 and just put a new Western Digtal Scorpio black drive in. When I try to run the recovery process with my CD, it gets to about 9/10s through then an error message comes up saying it cannot communicate with the hardware.

  2. try updating you BIOS
  3. Did you format the new hard drive? Most hard drives ship un-formatted (atleast in my experience). Usually windows will not even see the hard drive until it is formatted.

Try booting from a linux live cd or hirens boot cd, and format the hard drive. You can also use a sata-usb kit to format it from another PC.
