He might have spoken too soon. Critics are raving about West's Graduation - and its already sold 200,000 more units than Fiddy's Curtis since yesterday's same-day release in the US. The hip-hop egomaniacs were pitted against each other when, last month, Fiddy said on sohh.com: "If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer (perform) music. I'll write music and work with my other artists but I won't put out any more solo albums." Associated Press said on the strength of the albums, West could claim a "landslide victory." "... Graduation still sound like a logical step forward. Yet Curtis sounds like Fiddy is standing in place ... Fiddy's outsized cockiness sounds like a comfortable artist repeating himself, afraid to tinker with his winning formulas." Ryan Dombal, from Pitchfork, gave Fiddy just 4.9 stars out of 10. "in direct opposition to Kanye's fearless, risk-taking, Graduation, 50's new album is a blatant rehash - a bottom-line sequel that insults the same audience it mildlessly panders to." Respected sie HiphopDX said: "50 cent may be a superstar, but Curtis is pedestrian." But critics heaped praise on West's Graduation. Rolling Stone gave the album 4.5 stars out of five, saying: "This is an album that you first like, then love." HiphopDX echoed the sentiment. "Kanye has created another must-have album that will continuously bump on your CD players and mp3's for months to come." Here's more quotes: At Amoeba Music in Hollywood, store music buyer Kristen Frederick said: "For every 50 Cent CD we sell, we sell two Kanyes." "An Amazon.com spokeswoman said the site will be tracking sales for each album via a graphic on its music page all week. At midday Tuesday, West was outpacing 50 Cent more than 2 to 1." "And the Chicago-bred West was also hitting his "rival" where it hurts, outselling him at key stores in 50 Cent's hometown." "It's probably at 3 to 1, with Kanye outselling 50 with our sales so far," Carl Alvarez, urban buyer for the Virgin Entertainment Group, said. "I anticipated 60% of people picking up both, but we anticipated Kanye selling more." http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...12,0,6067556.story?coll=la-home-entertainment ***Did you realize, that you are the champion in their eyes?
thats bullshit, even a week from now when the official sound scan comes out it wont be a 200k difference
im so glad to hear this and i hope kanyes sales stick it out and put 50 cent to rest...50s so lame its not even funny just a fake hollywood gangster..kanye doesnt pretend to be something he isnt and he stays chi town reppin...50 cent also ruined lots of 2pacs never released tracks by distorting sounds and throwing the occasional 'G UNIT' in his 2pacs shit...also dissed the latin kings and latinos in general, the mothafucker will never step foot in chicago now
Im not a big fan of rap, but I must say that Kanye is the better artist. He has better lyrics, a different and introspective sound, and speaks on political and social issues in his music. 50 cent is just another generic gangster rapper.. bleh what a tired genre.
I liked 50 cent back when he was real http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_of_the_Dollar Kanye is good, always has been good ever since I heard through the wire like 4 years ago. But this isn't kanye's best album, not by a long shot. I had greater expectations.
50s new album is a steaming pile of shit. not one good song kanyes album isnt that good either but it has a few good songs like everything i am, homecoming, and stronger
In my opinion Kanye is overhyped beyond all measure. I remember when his last one came out, everyone was screaming about how awesome he was. When I finally got around to hearing some songs I was shocked that so many people could be so taken by it. I found nothing special in it. As for 50 Cent? Well, I have a lot of his songs, and I like them. But, again, nothing overly great there either.
I dont really like Kanye but i hope he sells more records. 50 Cent's nothing more than a walking publicity stunt.
