I guess being all but surrounded by "cannabis-friendly" states and having half of Kansas City with recreational use legalized, has been a bit much for conservative Kansas! So they may soon be taking that first step toward legalization, allowing medical use (although I think it will be a very restrictive MMJ law ). But "baby steps" are better than none! Kansas governor reinforces priority to legalize medical marijuana https://www.wibw.com/2022/12/02/kansas-governor-reinforces-priority-legalize-medical-marijuana/ WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly on Friday reinforced one of the priorities for her second term as governor. Kelly tweeted a message emphasizing the reasons she wants to see the state legalize medical marijuana. “This legislative session, we need to legalize medical marijuana so that Kansans with severe illnesses no longer have to suffer,” she said. “Providing this relief is long overdue, so let’s work together to get this done. In mid-November, Kelly outlined five objectives on which she plans to focus in her second term. Joining the legalization of medical marijuana on that list are providing tax relief, expanding Medicaid, protecting first responders, and investing in mental health resources. (snipped) I think this may be less due to altruism, and more because of the "total nightmare" of enforcing opposing sets of laws in Kansas City, the loss of "cannabis dollars" being spent to buy cannabis in other states, and not getting all those taxes from legal cannabis businesses.
