Kagan supported banning certain books... how can any American support her?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Sir Elliot, May 10, 2010.

  1. In a previous thread today we discussed how most of us are opposed to the government banning books.

Yet Elana Kagan, Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court, argued in favor of legislation that allowed the FEC to ban books (as was admitted in oral arguments to the supreme court) at will without any federal oversight or judicial appeal.

Why would any America ever support a woman who argued in favor of giving the government unlimited power to ban books?

  2. What books do they want to ban?

  3. It's the current mind set of our govt. We need them to run everything, tell us what we want, need, and think. Ban books? I'm not surprised.

  4. No list provided.

Kagan argued to allow the FEC to retain powers to ban books at will.

Obama has tried to cover this up, going so far as to attack the supreme court in his SOTU address. An obviously desperate attempt to hide the fact that Barack Obama, and now his latest Supreme Court nominee, are expressly in favor of the government being able to ban books at will.

Barack Obama wanted, and Elana Kagan argued for, giving the government unlimited power to ban books.

He didn't get the decision he wanted, he didn't get unlimited unchecked power to ban books..

SO NOW HE TRIES TO APPOINT THE WOMAN WHO ARGUED IN FAVOR OF GIVING OBAMA POWER TO BAN BOOKS ONTO THE COURT

    It's just absolutely stunning.

  5. something needs to be done.

  6. The comments made during the State of the Union had absolutely nothing to do with this and were, in fact, addressing a recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance reform!!! Get a grip.

  7. ...

Buddy, that's the case we're talking about.

    Citizens United v. FEC

SCOTUS overturned the law and sided with Citizens United because the legislation in question allowed the banning of books.

  8. Yup, you're right, I just looked it up. Seems like it is I that needs to "get a grip". ;)

  9. I absolve you of your sin.

As pennance, you musy go to tea party rally :-D

  10. :d :d :d
