  1. $15,000 a year for full time minimum wage is pitiful. you cant live off of that. and someone has to do those jobs. so why is that they should be forced to live a shitty life when they're doing a job that needs to be done? ill use your example of flipping burgers. if no one cooks the burgers how is the business going to sell anything? flipping burgers is the most important job at a fast food joint yet it doesnt pay nearly enough to live not shitty life off of..

  2. There you have it, you clearly don't understand what we're saying.

  3. PERFECT!!! AN ACTUAL EXAMPLE!

Alright, here's what will happen. Let's say your force the business to pay all of it's burger-flippers and employee's 45,000 a year, tripling all of their wages. Great! Now all the employees are happy! Except...

Now instead of charging 5 dollars for a burger, the business now has to charge 15 dollars for the same burger! Who wants to pay 15 dollars for a freaking hamburger? I'd rather just make it myself at home for 3 bucks!

Everyone stops going to that restaurant because the prices are too high, the business goes bankrupt, and now all of those employees are out of work.

    Make sense?

  4. is Anybody here living good enough ?

  5. What is and isn't the most important job at a fast food joint, much less any business, is a subjective matter. If your waiter/waitress is terrible, that's not exactly going to encourage you to come back and eat their on a weekly basis. If the dishwasher lets dirty eating utensils slip past him/her and out into the dining area, nobody will want to eat their period.

Someone has to do these jobs, as supply and demand dictates. But do you see many people who make a career out of it, people that make a career out of the food industry typically aspire to be chefs in more pristine dining establishments, not the head cook at McDonalds.

The young generations do these jobs, as they require little experience. This experience allows them to move up the employment chain, so long as they are actually GOOD at what they do (People skills, efficiency, etc), not just average. It takes skill to provide a good living for yourself, you don't just get a good living because you work anywhere.

  6. 15,000 is quite liveable.

I and my grandparents live quite well off just around that number.

Why should burger flippers be paid a lot of money?

They are the most easily replaceable member of the business.

Vital? Sure. But how valuable is your labor when I can find and train someone to replace you in a matter of days.

For example I have been looking for work for months with no luck.

Decided to start learning Spanish and for the first time I got a job interview

Learned a new skill to make my labor more valuable.

Now I'm rambling and forgot what the point of this post was.

  7. first of all i never said $45,000 you made that number. simply raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $12 would give them enough to live without running the business out of business. also if they charged more they would have to give a better product to make up for the raise in price and i think we can all agree it wouldnt hurt for burger king to give us real burgers... plus with the minimum wage raised people could afford the more expensive better burgers.

  8. Hey buddy, in order for Burger King to give you a better burger, they have to buy better quality foods. Better quality foods costs more money, along with paying your employees more then your labor is worth.

Not only would you be overpaying for a medium quality burger, on top of it you'd be paying premium rate merely for the expense of the low skilled labor who have done nothing to better their skills that would actually prompt their employer to give them a raise.

Meanwhile I'll go elsewhere and get the same "real burger" for half the price.

    Way to reward bad behavior.

  9. "also if they charged more they would have to give a better product to make up for the raise in price"

This just showcases how poor your understanding of business really is.

I just picked 45,000 as an arbitrary number to illustrate the principle, that principle applies regardless of the amount.

The more money you charge for a burger, the less people will buy the burger. The more money you pay for labor, the more you have to charge for the same quality burger.

If you want to increase the quality of the burger, that will just increase the price of the burger even more.

I'll say it again, the higher the cost of the burger, the less people will buy it, the less money the business makes, the less employees the business can afford = it has to lay people off.

  10. It appears he just doesn't have the capability to understand how it works?

He said it himself, he has no idea how a business really works. He's not a business man and doesn't know how to run a business, so I guess we can't expect him to understand?

  11. People just want the best of both worlds.

They want to make the most money possible, while putting the least bit of effort into it.

Solution? Work for the government; local, state, federal, it's all the same. It's not like you actually have to provide a competitive service to generate revenue, your customers are forced to pay for your employment.

  12. This is already happening. Problem comes in the form of enormous government debt though, this just means hyperinflation.

  13. This is true. /slowclap

Your entire worldview is self-detonating and contradictory. You don't want liberty for workers. You want a handout.

  14. Freedom belongs to the individual, not to groups. That's is the major flaw of collectivist thinking. Neither the workers, nor the owners, should get any special treatment. Individuals should be free, period.

  15. Obviously you get your understanding of anarchism by stealing a grasscity members quote. There's a lot more literature and pamphlets about anarcho-syndicalism, anarcho-communism, libertarian socialism, etc., etc. capitalism and anarchism are two different things get over it.

  16. yeah too bad French anarcho communists were the first to call themselves Libertarians in the 1800's..

    How libertarian of you.

It's too bad that words' definitions change over time. Your appeal to tradition is noted. What else from the 1800s (or more specifically, 19th century France) would you like to maintain?

  18. Voting for this guy would be a joke.

Maybe if he can build up some crazy momentum in four years..

Heard good things bout Gary Johnson as well..

Yup. All these guys need to do is build up some serious followers in the next 4 years.

  19. Hi, welcome to the politics section of Grasscity. Stick around and find out just how wrong you are!
