If you are really bad with making friends take 10 bucks in 1s dress like a hippie & hand 1 dollar to each black youth you see (max of 10) and ask if they know "what's good". Also, since your from Chicago learn the TX slang. You're in Houston, turn on some Houston Rap it's the best. It's like the light in the dark, we all flock for something in common. If someone gives you a head-nod while jamming S.U.C it's a 75% chance they got some kill. Times are tough and Houston isn't necessarily a nice place but you'll be damn sure we got some hospitality if you show a little respect. Can't really give you a "hook-up" or I would. Best of luck! TLDR Learn the slang, learn the music. Look harder, and talk to the youth. Almost everyone likes Houston Rap in Houston so it's a quick way to make a friend even if you enjoy rock/metal/techno/ect. Houston is a great city. We have so much diversity here, and almost anything you want to do at your fingertips. If you're in college, smoke a cig at one of the pavilions and I guarantee you will meet a fellow toker. Hit up Washington st., there is always something happen down there lol. Check out one of the free shows in discovery green, idk. Point is, we have a shit ton to do here and some of the nicest people around. It's not hard to love Houston, once you look pass the traffic lol.

Been in Houston since '03 off and on.. and love it here. Although I'll move to Chicago in a heartbeat as soon as global warming kicks in and the winter disappears! Lacking hook up here too though, so I rely on friends in other cities and am forced to make road trips. Although I'm pretty sure they're peddling reggie in my neighborhood, right around the corner!
