Don't do things halfway. If nobody can neg rep nobody should be able to give positive rep. Just get rid of it and the bars that go with it. As it stands it's totally meaningless so why do you keep it? And yes, it was a very shortsighted measure. If you're going to do something do it. Don't do it halfway.
Yeah it seems kind if silly to only have positive rep... but I guess it's supposed to improve positive vibes. A bit of a shallow way of trying to do it, but whatever, I got green bars fo days
Yeah, I like knowing when people find my posts valuable or agree with me. I wouldn't mind it gone if you could comment via Likes, though.
That was never an option anyhow. Back in the day you just would have gotten an infraction and a bunch of -rep.
They need to bring neg rep back. I think mods where just tired of cry babies bitching about getting neg repped.
It's not really the mods. They couldn't see or deal with rep. It causes a shitfuckton of work for Rummy and that's not right, but the answer isn't to just get rid of neg rep. Either fix the system so improper negs can be reported to mods or get rid of it altogether
If people had used it appropriately this wouldn't even be a topic for discussion. Neg repping as a matter of 'revenge' or because one didn't agree with a post was a big part of the problem. The only reason people should have been neg repping was when someone violated rules, basically.
Too many people used it totally unfairly too. Some newbie makes a thread asking "is this an eighth?" and some internet superhero is like "-REP, THAT WAS A STUPID QUESTION!" and suddenly that new member has a red bar over one post and everyone is talking shit to them because they're in the red and don't deserve any respect. That kind of rep abuse went on way too often. And with the admin being the only person who could deal with rep abuse, I'm sure it got damn fuckin' tiring. Simpler to just do +rep only. No complaints about people -repping others for stupid reasons. If you deserve rep, you'll get it. If you don't, you won't. It's still at least an indication that you've been around here for a while and have made some rep worthy posts. I think the people who act like it's pointless without -rep are just disappointed that they can't -rep people anymore. I'm fine without -rep, personally. I'll continue giving rep to those who deserve it, and there will always be people who go through many posts without getting any rep because it's clear that they're contributing nothing at all. But it really does help me tell people apart too. If 420jointsmoker has a full rep bar and 420bluntsmoker has no rep bar, I can figure out who's who.
yeah, that's exactly what i would neg rep. i hate coming across trolls or people who are just plain disrespectful. but those same people were probably the ones abusing the system anyway.
Yeah, mods and admins can still -rep as far as I know. But it's unlikely, since most offenses worthy of a -rep are also worthy of a warning/infraction/ban, and mods know better than to use -rep as a form of moderation. If someone were acting like a major fuckin' asshole but not actually breaking any specific rules, then they might end up with a red bar.
Back when I was still a somewhat new member, some dude -repped me because he said I was "pretty". Something about how I was too pretty to be here or something, so he -repped me for it. I mean.. come on... seriously?!
