so I work at a local grocery store. I came in as a bagger - worked hard and switched departments - i'm now "next in line" for seafood lead. long story short the older person who runs seafood had to get surgery and was considering retirement. I took on their whole workload and responsibilities - going from 20-25 hours/week to 40-45 hours/week. (which is fine with me! more money!) oh yeah, NO PAY RAISE. my boss's were telling me "they're not gonna come back", "the job's basically yours until we hear otherwise." so today I hear that the older person has decided to come back. not only that, but they're on "light duty" - meaning I will have to do the big stuff for them. I was livid. they basically used me for 8 weeks and now next week my hours will be slashed and I will be working frozen stock. I am just dumbfounded. they trained me.. I worked my ass off and was excelling... and now i'm just being pushed back out the door.. I almost just walked out today. what would you dudes do? isn't this fucked up? just venting... such bullshit.

  2. I'd go from being a great employee. To a lazy skiving bastard!

Every job I done would be with min effort lol
And if be out the door the second my shift finished.

  3. Start smuggling halibut filets home in your undershorts.

  4. Lemon sole is pretty expensive I'd tax that instead of halibut whatever halibut is lol

  5. Ask for compensation for those 8 weeks and for a different position? Maybe convince them to stay in seafood or something
That sucks though man. Be happy you have a job though

  6. I would keep doing a good job.

  7. I recently thought about smuggling lamb out Of my job, its pretty expensive meat lol, but its just a highdea the reward isnt worth risk in this case

  8. I'm not gonna smuggle anything... I get a sense of pride knowing I do my job well.. although that halibut is$ 27.99/pound... lol..

  9. nothing you really can do. sounds like they expected the guy to retire, hence them training you, but he didn't. what would you really want them to do, fire him? sounds like you are going to be taking over a decent portion of his job for now, which could equate to more hours.

it's shitty and I totally sympathize with you. just keep doing a good job, and you can kinda guarantee that when/if this guy does leave, you can take his place. if you are really pissed about the whole scenario, you could find another job, I dunno.

  10. That's just a classic grocery store for you. I worked in a couple through high school/college and I always had problems with management in terms of pay rate and hours. At one store they didn't properly change my pay rate for around 3 months AND refused to give me back pay. I would have walked out right then but I needed the money at the time.
In your scenario, it sounds like they had the intention of maybe promoting you if he had retired but he didn't, so they are just pushing you back down again. It sucks, but whAt are you gonna do besides quit? At least your getting a guaranteed 40-45 hours a week. The last grocery store I ever worked at, it was a huge ordeal just to consistently get 40 hours. It would literally fluctuate 40 one week, 30 the next, 35 the next, 33 the next, etc, dumb as fuck

  11. Make the old guy "disappear"

  12. just say "fuck you pay me" next time you go in

  13. Welcome to work life...
