yes you do but if u fail u still can go but u cant go home for 1 month and they test u again and if u fail u get kicked out

Job Corps is bullshit! You live on their campus. Day starts at 8am, lights out at like 9 or 10pm. You can NOT have your own vehicle up there. It is forbidden to leave campus or have visitors unless you have permission. NO drugs, alcohol, sexual behavior of any sort. Also, there is a seperate campus for men and women so you'll be at a sausage fest, bro.

These are just a few reasons, I backed out of going.

 

i went there to get some free computer certifications and because i had no where to live. i actually thought it did wonders for my character, taught me how to live on my own and take care of myself. went there when i was 16. its no walk in the park, and you definiately have to be careful smoking and drinking (but as long as you're not an idiot, they probably wont find out).

i went to a really nice campus though. edison in nj. i heard some others were REALLY shitty.

yes! but if you fail, they dont kick you out. it just means you cant leave the campus for 30 days ensuring you cant get more drugs (even though people sell pot inside, at least at my campus)

-do they randomly drug test?
if you do something that makes it look like you're on drugs, yes.

-how hard would it be to get away with smoking once there?
just dont be an idiot. i did it all the time.

if you're a minor you always have to get parents permission, but if not, you can go home on the weekends after the second week. you can also get passes to leave campus during the day too.

-is smoking (cigarettes) aloud?
absolutely. people used to stand outside the cafeteria selling 'boags' all day. if you bring cartons from outside, you can make a killing.


edit: this is all from my campus point of view though, and i left in 2006. but at my campus, we never had to run or do any kind of physical activity..

 

No Comment is absolutely correct. It use to be kinda chill back then. "In the last 2 years(words from a rep), it has tightened up on behavior and leaving campus."

i get VERY little shit when i went to job corps though. i look like someone you want to fuck with, but im just too nice. people realize that pretty early on. im just very nice.

they thought i was gay for real, because i had long hair or something... no offense to anyone, but it was a primarily lower income minorities, and again, no offense, but some of them just are NOT used to things they dont normally see and make it a very strong point to make fun of things they dont understand.

the meanest kids were the ones from the virgin islands... i really tried to be nice to them, they played tony hawk with me sometimes, but they were overall just very grumpy. maybe they also didnt feel welcome and didnt know how to express it. but they werent very nice haha.

 

im a very nice person also but im stil real worried =/

 

yeah, it sounds like theyre mean there. i never even saw so much as a fight when i went. but if you hear they want to kick your ass or something, i would tell one of the employees of job corps. thats not being a bitch, like some people would tell you. you shouldnt have to deal with any kind of violence. you're a person who's trying to better his life.

 

somtimes or a majority of the time ppl take kindness for weakness..thats y im worried nd stuff cuz i dont treat ppl badly unless i just blow up from anger but even that takes alot to do

I'm heading there next Friday to enroll myself actually..

They give you a UA when you first join, no random testing after that unless you act suspicious

You are on probationary status for first 30 days regardles of whether you passed the test or not

You can't leave until after the first 30 days and even then it's only on weekends, and you have to give them the name, address, and phone number the Wednesday before the weekend prior to leaving or they won't let you go.
