    Sick arm triangle defense, I've been trying it for few weeks now and I feel like I'm immune to arm triangles

    Darker belts let go almost right away, and lighter belts don't always recognize they've lost it and squeeze out their energy

  2. I dont think arm triangles work on me. Iv never tapped to one in rolling or competition. I think iv had 5 locked up on me in competition by guys really trying to finish and Iv been able to just let them burn themselves out.
    In training theres a blue belt whos about 10kg bigger than me and specialises in arm triangles and cant finish them on me, and another blue (not far of purple) whos about 35kg bigger than me and has pretty much given up trying them on me.
    I dont think Iv been doing anything special defence wise. Must be a ratio of size of shoulders to neck or somthing that makes it not really shut off properly

    Have you done any competitions/thought about doing one in the future? What kind of game do you like to play? Gi or no gi? What's ur favourite sub? What do you get caught with most often? How many people train at your gym?

  5. Yeah man I love doing that it always surprises/annoys the more experienced guys lol

    Pretty much the best compliment I can get after a roll is "you're a squirmy pain in the ass man!!"

    @FrickinA nah my dude I actually haven't tried to toke and roll yet. I've found that things that require 100% of my focus, I'm reluctant to try high. I did a mountainbiking trip hiighghh as fuck and it turned a thrill into a mild terror.

    I've been wanting to roll high for a long time tho, not bombed, but toasted. I've seen several of the darker belts at my dojo with red eyes giggling on their way in to practice

  7. I've trained high only a couple of times, it was alright... I think it would have been better with a sativa, but rolling was fun.

    I definitely prefer sober and then getting high as fuck at home as a reward afterwards

  8. Little while back I was making some special brownies right before I head out to training, first time making edibles but i do cook a lot, so im tasting things as i go a long making sure its good as i always would, not thinking about it.
    get down to class fine, half way through the warm up i realise iv probably had like half a portion in tasting and its kicking in.
    For the most part I was maybe slightly more relaxed than normal, not a huge difference.
    But there was one point where I had quite a revelation*, the clubs recently moved closer to my house so i can walk rather than drive, so next time Iv got some sativa (last time was critical+ which smoking just seems to make me chilled as fuck rather than high high) , or maybe any new strain for that matter I might take a few hits on the vape before I go down see how I feel.


    *for those curious what the revelation was on bottom in a position I want to call reverse half but im not sure thats what most people mean by reverse half- think youve been playing knee shield maybe and your top legs been leg dragged across yourself with your bottom leg between the top players legs. If the top player had a lockdown on the bottom leg and was into 10th planet terminology theyd have stoner control and the leg drag forces you towards what would be the wrong side to lie on for that leg being in your half guard (if you were to cross your feet youd now have say the opponents right leg if youd had started playing knee shield on the left leg). Does that make any sense? If not there was a position I was in, it was a thing. And from there it just clicked that the relation ship of my legs and their upper leg, and their leg relative to my body where exactly the same as double outside ashi garami, just with my upper body and lower body in the wrong place relative to each other and theyre leg bent away from me.
    A position that pressure passers we're fairly regularly putting me in was 90% of the way to a position where I have a major advantage and I could get pretty much there without having to fight for every grip and movement (even the transition between the two is pretty much letting them use their own forward momentum) .
    Until they all realised I was baiting it that was the week of the blue belts saying "oh fuck hes got my leg again" a lot.

  9. Nice man. Sometimes hitting the wax pen before practice kills any mild stomach or headaches I have and allows me more focus - but definitely should avoid any hard hitting edibes. One of the top purple belts at my place consistently smells like weed, and he's definitely respected at my dojo.


    @PuppyMonkeyBaby Yeah squirmy definitely is a compliment... I often get told that I'm strong, especially for 180 lb, but the implication generally is that my technique is poor. Often, this is not the case, my strength allows me to apply my technique effectively (I'd like to emphasize that I'm talking about guys my level, whitebelts with several stripes that is). I heard on the Jocko Willink podcast recently that he gets the same response... in his head his reply is "youre damn right im strong --- and youre weak!"... but I don't let my ego get involved on the mat... its all about learning and having fun IMO, and theres ALWAYS tons of guys who are better than me... so gotta keep that ego checked

  10. Yeah I'm right in the middle of the pack... It's awesome I can dominate one round and then get smothered by a beast wrestler the next

  12. no not yet, I somehow got through 8 years of playing prop-forward (rugby) without any,
    Im glad iv avoided it- the earsphones/earplugs I use for work are custom moulded, cauliflowering would probably stop them fitting and theyre ~£500 a pair to make (plus finding time to have an audiologist pour goo in my ears), fuck having to replace those regularly

  15. Over the past year ive gained so much respect for Jiu Jitsu, i know BJJ is alot different but i really want to start training in it once ive got some things in life sorted. Is 22 to late to start?

  18. This is the conversation that got me to get off my ass and show up at the dojo

    Can confirm all they say; really friendly and helpful atmosphere at BJJ class, even during brutal sparring, dudes stop up and tell you what you did wrong, compliment you, give you inspiration and all that good stuff. The key element of my journey from boy to man!

  19. No way is 22 too late to start. I started 6 months ago when I turned 23 and I've been learning a ton. Its really about how much heart you have and how willing you are to take the punishment day after day, not how old you are. One of my coaches (12 year black belt) started at 36, hes now 60. Many guys at my place start in their 30s. BJJ is a lifelong sport. Obviously the guys who started super young will be competing at a higher level in their 20s than someone who's just starting, but thats no reason not to try. Just go man you won't regret it, theres no point in thinking about competing before you know you even like it. Get it done.

    Edit: Honestly man, I'm not trying to assume anything by what you meant by "get some things sorted out", but I'd try to go sooner than that. The groove of BJJ you can find yourself in will translate to improvements throughout your life. Even if you can just train twice a week thats better than nothing, once you like it, you will make time for it.

  20. Yeah I will do when I'm settled in my new home (moving back near my hometown). Problem is I'm a chef and don't get much time off but I'd imagine I could get some JJ practice in going twice a week. I'm not really looking to compete just to learn a martial art I've gained respect for.
