The godfather of modern jazz guitar moves on... I had a chance to see him once at Birdland. He really was incredible. RIP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2Omlufc2rw
This is very sad news. He was great, and had very high standards for himself. Many years ago, decades in fact, a friend of mine had seen him playing in a club, in NYC, and bumped into him on the subway a few days later. When he told him how wonderful he sounded, Hall was surprised because he didn't think he had played well at all that night - this is from a guy that did an album with Bill Evans, among other fine recordings of his own or with many of the greatest names in jazz!
