    I had a chance to see him once at Birdland. He really was incredible. RIP.

  2. This is very sad news. He was great, and had very high standards for himself. Many years ago, decades in fact, a friend of mine had seen him playing in a club, in NYC, and bumped into him on the subway a few days later. When he told him how wonderful he sounded, Hall was surprised because he didn't think he had played well at all that night - this is from a guy that did an album with Bill Evans, among other fine recordings of his own or with many of the greatest names in jazz!
     
  3. That's a cool experience to have had. He was humble on top of everything else... good guy.
