  1. Last, but definetly not least - Blueberry Porn!

Check out the fall colors! So pretty!

Hopefully I can get a few more weeks off of this gal. Many of my big fans are yellowing, but its no big deal. The flowers are putting on weight, aroma, and boy, oh boy, are they getting pretty!

This plant has me wondering just how much she is going to produce!

  2. that blueberry porn is gorgeous jerry, F'in A. bravo! :smoke:

ordered two copies of teaming with microbes. one for me, and one as a gift. i wonder which will come first, my worms or my book. i ordered them both yesterday :p

when i move im gonna try to build a table like that. i currently have flood trays that i empty out manually (which is a pain), and i bought a cheap $50 piece of linoleum to cover my floor. my only concern is, over time, wouldnt that roofing material start to tear and rip? or get saggy in one area? its probablly really easy to replace, idk i guess i would want to construct somthing more permanent, like putting drains in the trays i have on a table. ill figure it out :bongin:

    keep on keepin on!

  3. Jerry, o m g :) beautiful plants man. i love the color!

  11. She's a big girl, that's for sure:)

So Jerry, quick question if I may... When brewing your AACT does it need to be in darkness? I've been reading a few different recipes and haven't come across any information on that yet...

  12. Doc, good morning.

She is indeed a big girl - definetly bigger than any of my others. I'm not sure if its strain related, or, what I am really thinking, is that its temperature related. Its much cooler in the room during "night" cycle when the lights are off now, and could be slowing down the microbes for sure. I have a small heater that works on a thermostat, and also works in conjunction with the timers - it only xomes on when the lights are off. I think its time to set this up for the winter!

Its going to be interesting to see how much this gal produces, for sure!

As far as the AACTs and light go, Teaming with Microbes definetly tells me to keep the brew out of direct sunlight, but I don't believe that it needs to be totally dark. Shaded area is fine I think.

I hit everything last night with the brew I made this weekend with my own castings. Its funny - there was almost no "goop" on the bottom of the bucket when it was finished - like the vermicompost was about "soluble", and disappeared into the mix.

Have a great day, all. Back to work!

    Jerry.

  13. Fun Time -

I know I need to make the flow-thru's!!!

This is really SO important to me, and next on my list of MUST-DO gardening related projects. For me, this is of the utmost importance, as my plan is to run ALL of my ammendments thru the worm bins!

To be able to take these ammendments - kelp meal, fish meal, seed meals, rock dusts - you name it - thru the worm bins, and to be able to have the worms further process and cycle these ammendments is the ultimate gardening tool!

    Ultimate!!!

If it were warmer weather right now, these would be done, loaded with worms and food and up & running right now. The sub-zero temps here in Maine kinda scare me, but my plan is to line the inside of the fflow-thru bins with a network of soil warming cable set up on a thermostat, and insulate the hell out of them, while still maintaining airflow.

It is going to be a challenge, but I'm up for it.

I had spoken to Chunk some time ago with an idea I had to utilize an old deep, chest freezer that has been lingering on (I dont know why, must be laziness *lol*) out in our shed since I bought the old house years ago.

This actually sounds perfect to modify into an insulated, thermostatically heated worm bin - I mean, its already insulated well, and is basically the perfect size and shape for me! What could be better? Its probably 5' long, 2 1/2' wide, and 3 1/2' deep.

Keep pushing me here, this is important, SO IMPORTANT - and I simply need to get it done.

    WORMS ROCK.

  18. Good evening my friend:eek:

That'a a good hypothesis Jerry. I'd say, temperature isn't something most new growers put much thought into. You'll see temps all over the place in different journals... Where do you like your temps to be throughout your grow?

Any guesses on yield of that huge monster?:p

Cool thanks for the info man, and sorry about all the questions:) I'm going to try brewing some up this week! I really should go check out that Teaming with Microbes book you keep suggesting  I really don't know why I haven't.....

    LD -

I am indeed VERY interested. Seeing as how our friendship has grown over the last year, I wont come right out and ask, because that wouldnt be nice, but please know that I would appreciate it very much if you would get me this for Christmas.

I've been very good and feel that I deserve it.

    jerry.

ps - I was going to get you one, but you already have one.

pss - 50 - 105 lbs of castings daily??? Really??? I mean, it looks nice, but really???

    Hi Doc!

It feels good sending you my 1,000th post, seeing as how you were one of my original GC buddys. :)

Temperature. I definetly feel that the soil temperature (even moreso than ambient room temperature) plays a very important role in organic gardening. I've seen it change my growth rates too often for it to be coincidence.

I think that 78-85 degrees sounds about right...

I know that 85 sounds hot, but I am positive that I have seen my fastest growth rates during these temps...tropical, ya know what I mean?

I'd love to hear comments from others regarding this. Seriously. I know for a fact that my growth rates slow WAAAAAY down once things cool down too much.

Yield on the Blueberry? I just dont know! I do know that when I was using bottles of nutrients, I was averaging 2.5 ounces per plant. For some reason I'm thinking that I'm going to do a little better on this one...*lol*

    Double? Triple?

Can you imagine tripling your yields by switching to living organics? I would have never thought it possible, but now it seems realistic! :)

I'd love a guess from anyone as to how much they think this gal is going to produce. I am going to take an (educated) guess...

Maybe not quite triple - lets say six ounces. Now its your turn...:)

Doc, what are you thinking for a tea recipe? Lets talk about this and get it nice! I havent seen any pics from you in a long time...what do you have going on?

    jerry.
