Japa

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by thabosshogg, May 6, 2011.

  1. Does anyone here practice Japa (the repeating of a mantra over and over)? I gave it a serious go for the first time today.

I did the "Om Namah Shivayah"/Panchaksara mantra (adoration of Shiva) 1080 times, which took I guess about 40 minutes to an hour, I'm not really sure, and I haven't felt so joyous in a long time. I still feel intensely happy....

I highly recommend it to anyone. Not only is it extremely effective as a meditation but it also allows you to show devotion and praise for god/the all (whatever you prefer to call it).

I plan on doing this every day from now on... hopefully my family won't be too irritated by it...

I was on my back porch doing it and my voice sounded normal to me but I must have been vibrating the words really loud because my mom came outside and said it was very loud and she had no idea where it was coming from, and that I should do it inside so as not to "scare the neighbors" lol.

Yes I do Japa, 10 malas a day, 5 malas morning and 5 night, anymore than that until you have mastery of the mind will only be an obstacle as it will get stuck in your head. I was using Om Namah Sivaya before but now I use the theurgic equivalent.

You do not have to say it out loud, in fact it is much more beneficial if you can remain focused repeating it mentally. Each Om Namah Sivaya should last around 3 seconds, or do what feels natural, only speed up if you lose focus.

Also beware of which mantras you used. The Gayatri mantra for example was created so unless initiated into it it will have ill effects. Nama Japa is usually safe though, Om Namah Sivaya is safe for sure.

Namah Japa is the highest Japa, as it directly cleanses the mental body by focusing it on God.

That is very helpful. I can just picture me waking up at 8 am on a Saturday and loudly vibrating a mantra for an hour would make my family pretty angry lol. I will probably be practicing mentally unless I'm alone...

That's also interesting you say that abut the Gayatri mantra. I actually used to say it a lot and at the time it was probably one of the worst episodes of my current spiritual journey, although my "crisis" began before I started using the mantra. Right when I got better I pretty much stopped using it without even realizing it.

  4. What it does when done wrong is attract demons to your astral body, and those buggers are still there trust me. It wasn't until Sunday night that I had a my little demon buddy exorcised from my chest after 4 years of leeching energy lol, and it wasn't that I didn't want him gone, but there was a subconscious identity/attachment that I would run and refuse to be healed when it was attempted, but all is well now. Also drug abuse and hanging around with drug addicts attracts demons as well. So yeah I may as well have been the anti-Christ with the legions of demons attached to my astral body lol.

What do these demons do exactly? Just leech energy or feed off certain habits? How do you get rid of them? Should I be concerned? I've been feeling really good the last few days.....From my understanding demons aren't quite as horrible as people/religions make them out to be. Aren't they simply mental entities?

Actually this brings up an interesting questions. If someone who is spiritually inclined like myself, who tries to live in love and awareness, can have demons attached to my astral body for something that simple....

.... does the average , "unawakened" person in the world just have loads of demons all over their astral bodies lol? In fact, are many people's personalities highly influenced by various demonic influences feeding off of bad habits?

I feel like I read that somewhere before...

  6. Just as you would expect, non-travelers cannot be influenced by astral demons because their astral bodies are in a dormant state, the demons cannot detect this sort of inactivity. This is why it's extremely important for novice travelers to take care when awakening their astral selves to take precautions, like Trismegistus mentioned earlier.

ArgoSG, you, of all people, believe in the existence of an astral body?

I have a hard time believing that one....

Also, I am not talking about astral travelling, so that would be irrelevant. We are talking here about the repitition of the Gayatri Mantra...not astral travel. I have never been to the astral plane before...

  8. I use the word travel loosely to mean anything which appeals to our astral bodies.

  9. You are going to have to try harder than that if you want me to believe that you actually think the astral body exists.

You are not one to use words like "travel" so vaguely, my friend.

  10. There are demons that "persuade" you to certain habits, but this is not always the case as larvae do the same thing and are self-created. As far as getting rid of them I don't know how to go about doing it yourself, but focusing on Holy things and doing spiritual practice will certainly help you let go of them making them easier to overcome. Most times people aren't even aware they are being effected, I certainly wasn't aware, it wasn't until it was gone that I experienced the change to see how it had been affecting me. There are demons created by God, in fact there are demons who are in Gnosis, but their purpose is to do what demons do, it is their Divine mission no matter how horrific it would seem to us. Hitler may well have been on a Divine mission, look at how much change for good came after WWII.

Yes, plenty of people have demons attached to their lower vehicles. Lust, gluttony, addiction, greed, hate, etc.... all these things will attract like-minded demons to feed on the negative energies.

I'm not an expert in demon behavior or mechanics, so take what I say with a grain of salt as I do not know if these are 100% correct, but they are at least 95% correct as I was taught most of it.

  11. What is a demon? Pure energy? How do you know they exist?

  12. I see. At first when you said that that mantra attracts demons I was like . It made me kind of anxious for a little while lol, simply because my mind associates demons with scary powerful entities that harm you... not entities that simply feed off negative energy (which I suppose is still harm but ultimately we have power over our own passions/desires).

But then I realized that all this time I never had the slightest idea it was there, so it can't be that bad... if there even is one there. Not to mention I was around multiple IV h and meth users about a month ago which I also hear causes demons to attach.... shit, I've probably had little demons latching onto me for a long time now lol.

That's really intersting.... I don't even know if demons exist, I trust you but I have no way of knowing from my own experience. What you are saying makes sense though.

  13. A demon is a conscious being whom only has a couple traits that are all what we perceive as bad/evil. In Greek a demon simply meant "spirit", we all have a Higher Demon in the Greek sense. However I am using the word demon as it is most well known today in a negative entity whom feeds on you and persuades you to do damaging things so it may feed more as you deteriorate from your own actions caused by said demon.

As far as constantly answering the "how do I know" question, I think I've explained this enough lol, experience, both objective and subjective.

  14. Ok thanks man

  15. Btw I was just asking how you knew they exist so maybe I could see how they may have effected me.

Like did you read/learn about demons and then realized you experienced some of the symptoms?

No, I was contacted by one of my Teachers who told me about the ritual he saw me do in the Akasha, described this said ritual in exact detail, and informed me that this ritual had attracted a demon whom was leeching off the area of my chest. He said that I had been running from him at night, and that he caught me but I refused to allow him to heal me, and that I likely didn't remember it, to which I did not, it was a deep subconscious attachment, and he gave me suggestions for helping him to help me.

A few weeks later I had a dream about worshiping in a Temple, when a Yogi came up to me and put his hand on my upper back and I immediately went into a deep trance, and he told me he was helping restore my equilibrium, as well as some other things that don't belong in this explanation. The next day my meditations went much better than usual, and I felt different as well. The day after that when I got online the Teacher had sent me a message telling me that he had come to me Sunday night as a Yogi in a Temple and that I had finally allowed him to heal me.

The things I said can attract demons I was taught, but that was my first hand account of having a personal demon leeching off me. I was unaware that I still had the demon, since my life had gotten so much better after I finally dropped those previous practices, but after having it extracted it is noticeable. When you've lived in suffering as a drug addict and then life slowly transitions back into good, you can't tell there is still something dragging you down until the ball and chain are removed. You become so used to them that you don't know what it's like to walk without it until it's cut off.

  17. cool story! How in the hell do you enter someone's subconscious? That's some Inception shit :D

And yea that last paragraph makes sense. Like you've become so used to the demon attaching to you in a bad time in your life and you become so accustom to it that you won't notice it's presence once you return to normal.

  18. Dude that story was intriguing. The fact that certain spiritual masters can do those sorts of things blows my mind. Hearing stuff like this fills me with a sense of wonder, like I am a little kid again, and inspires me to be more spiritually aware in life. It's so exciting to start to become aware of this infinitely long journey....

I can only imagine what it is like to have someone demonstrate firsthand that they are clairvoyant or that they have siddhis.
