Similar sites that offer a look at marijuana culture by city. I'm moving to Cape Town and wanted to know how weed is looked at. But then I found out that webehigh.com is offline
I don't think cannabis is very accepted in South Africa. But I've never been there so maybe it is.
I've heard its super super cheap
Dont know of any sites like that, but I live in Cape Town, and bud is super easy to come across here, chances are if you take a walk down Long street in town you will get asked atleast 5 or 6 times if you wanna buy. This stuff is usually really seedy schwag, but it will get you by until you can find a good conection. Theres a couple of guys hidden away in shops on Long street who sometimes have some ok mids. Best/easiest place would be to go to a trance party.outdoor festival, of which there are hundreds of in the summer. South Africa has some of the best trance artists even on an international scale, so if you dig trance you should come to a few anyways. As far as how accepted it is, most younger people, say <30 will be pretty chill about it, and a lot of the non-afrikaans population will just ignore it. The Afrikaans people will generally not be too happy about it, because they are always pretty close-minded (think apartheid) and are generally quite religious (Christian). Cops here will normally let you get away with buying them a "Cooldrink" - read bribe, if they catch you, and will confiscate your bud (Normally to go sell it or smoke it). Chances are if a cop pulls you over to search you or your car, they are going to anyway even if you say you dont consent to searches. I'm not sure what the police are like in America, but here they are pretty useless, so there wouldn't be a lot of point in filing a complaint if that happened, unless you were being charged for possession or something. Cost wise, you are looking at paying about R20/gram, which works out to $2.40 for schwag, and up to about R100/gram ($12) for dank. Usually here most dealers on the street/in their little shops/ flea markets wont sell by weight, they will just say "yeah, its R50 a bag" (usually about 4-5grams depending on the quality and how the dealer is feeling). Basically, dont smoke in public, avoid police like the plague and your good to go. Outdoor parties you walk in to the campsite and get slapped in the face by the smell of bud, but you just gotta watch out for the rent-a-cops walking around, who think they are the shit. Also, the main private security company here, ADT, has drivers with massive egos cruising around who will most likely try to arrest you if they catch you with bud, but they dont have the authority to search you as far as i am aware. I think that about covers most things, PM me if there is anything else you needa know. Where abouts in Cape Town are you planning on staying?
Sjoe, dankie!! Gebeur jy per toeval Afrikaner te wees? I'm renting a room in the Constancia area from friends I've met. And eventually move somewhere else. It is pretty white in that area so it is safe and low crime. Is Long Street a nice place to walk around. Because I know South Africa has very bad crime. I am going there to perfect my Afrikaans and work by teaching English to immigrants. My friends smoke, so I already got a good connection. I was just trying to figure out how accepted it is in Cape Town. I would probably just be in the Constancia area once I get there, and until I get a feel of the city and learn where to go. Have you been to Wilderness? I might live there for a while as well, after CPT. Hou rook my vriend!
Yeah i actually live in Constantia at the moment, its pretty sweet here, loads of vineyards and nature reserves to go walk/blaze in. Long street is ok, most muggings and stuff will happen in quieter parts of town, but all the main streets like Long street, Wale street etc are generally pretty busy. If clubbing is your then then hit up Long street at night. Ive driven through wilderness, never stopped there though. It looks sick from the car, huge forests and mountains everywhere, and closeish to the beach. My Afrikaans is vreeslik sleg, ek dink ek moet waarskynlik 'n poging maak om 'n bietjie meer te leer.
oh cool. You live there too. Is it safe? Or is it like 7 foot walls, electric fences, barbed wires etc. I've only been to Johannesburg and Pretoria. Never been to CPT. I was in a gated community there so there wasn't need for all that. You could walk your dog at night with no worries. But that was in the Sandton area. And you do feel like you live in a bubble.
Constantia is walls + electric fences + alarm systems, but most houses in SA are like that. Cape Town definitely has a lower crime rate compared to joburg. I think its the same as most cities though, there is always gonna be crime, but as long as your sensible then your good. In the 5 years ive lived in Constantia we have only had one attempted break in (touch wood). The most common crimes would be people in town at night getting phones/wallets stolen because they are so stupidly drunk. Yeah i can walk our dogs whenever i want seeing as i have two german shepherds I definitely dont feel like i live in a bubble, theres plenty of stuff to do here. Mountains literally a 5 minute drive from my house, vineyards a 2 minute walk, closest beach is a 20min drive, town is 20 minutes away. I dont think cape town is the same as joburg where everyone just stays on their housing estate the whole time.
