Iso capacity please help

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by Lanny17, Mar 10, 2012.

  1. is there a maximum amount of thc the iso will grab ? Say I had 2 jars of leaf and I soaked the first one then strained the iso into the second jar soaked it and then strained into a dish would it pull just as much as the first jar ? I keep buying out my walmart on 99% so I'm just lookin for a way to do this using as little alcohol as possible

  2. Bump. I'm curious about this as well. I imagine it would. Become darker and lower quality as if you shook it for too long etc. but if not I'd be glad to hear about it

It'll help you both to look at it the other way around; that the oil "grabs" the solvent. The limit is when the amount of solvent added to the oil doesn't change the oil's viscosity, or at least not enough to accomplish anything.

Rather than thinking of there being a limit at all, you should consider it in terms of how much product is left behind. The thicker & more concentrated the solution is, the more oil will be left in the wet plant material. The remains can be pressed to get out as much as possible, but there will still be more oil left in the plant matter when the liquid is more concentrated than there would be if the liquid was less concentrated before pressing. Washing the plant material with solvent a second time can both get more oil out as well as demonstrate how much was left behind after the first extraction.

How far to take an extraction is up to the person performing it. You'll have to weigh the pros & cons of using more solvent vs leaving more oil in the plant matter.
