Islam and herb.

  1. I was raised a Christian and I don't have much interest in abandoning my faith. However, I've been looking into Islam and I'm fascinated...I have a Qu'ran that I read occasionally but doesn't make much sense to me all the time. Yes, it's in English :p. I was just wondering what the Muslim view of marijuana is. Obviously if someone here is Muslim, they most likely smoke pot too...I'm talking like the "mainstream" Islamic view. Anybody?

  2. I'm not sure however I can't help but ask a simple question..

What makes you crave a faith? Why do ya need a faith to have simple common sense? Seems like people attach excess crap to the simple concept of unity acceptance an peace...

I'd have to say we all should just drop the religious crap and pray to the almighty herb of peace to show us a way. Sooner or later everyone will be stoned and content with exsistance here an now. We'll all enjoy just being and hopefully all have enough honor and fear of irony to not screw people over. That whole do unto others as you'd have them do unto you thing.

Sorry I sorta jacked your thread...bit stoned and in a passive bow to the kind bud mood. :)

  3. People like to have faith, it gives their life more meaning. Praying to the herb of peace is a religion. It takes as much faith to believe in that, actually more considering most religions have a book to go by, than Hinduism or Islam or Christianity.

Lets take the issue of evolution for example, it takes as much faith to believe that than it does to believe a higher being created earth and created us. Both ideas are just that, ideas or theories, niether can be proven.

Im not an active member of any religion, i grew up going to chruch but i havent been in about 8 years. I try to read up on different religions, and take parts i agree with from each.

That whole do unto others thing is a part of every major religion as well.

I dont know how Musleams feel about weed honestly. I would say they probably dont like it, much like most of the other religions.

  4. Religion is based on faith...and believing in something you can't prove but can easily disprove kinda seems counter productive to having a path in life. IE It retards the good in the world more then it helps.

Praying to the herb that has proven itself peaceful and accepting of everyone isn't based on faith but real experience and fact.. Has anyone every lashed out in anger high? Don't think so... Have many changed their views of others based on being accepting in a high state? Yep.. loads... people who wouldn't drink from a bottle a gay touched could care less about swapping spit on a blunt or a j.

In my experience faith and fear of god or gods kinders to people of weak will. I don't need a book or a load of people telling me whats right an wrong.. I know in my heart an soul whats correct an whats not. No need for any social pecking order or guilt an embarassment.

  5. Dudes...chill out hahah...I'm not an "ignorant Christian", as I said I read the Qu'ran and many other books, not just religious but all types. I have no problem with homosexuality, I have gay friends. Faith is a very personal thing, and I shouldn't have to defend my faith...I could, but I don't really want to. I wouldn't "pray to an herb" because it's just a plant. I love it a lot too, I'm here aren't I? But I don't pray to it. I believe it was created in the beginning, and it was GOOOOOOOD...

  6. the initial question i wouldn't mind answered for i too wonder:

what is an islamist 's view of weed ?

  7. Judging by the full time devotion it requires a spacey pothead is probably frowned upon during mass.

G-rock, do you see the point? Faith is something unproven. You weren't around when and if it was created in the way you believe. Cold hard facts here an now are that it does grow and I'm sure if the whole world enjoyed it not one person would od/die/have an extreme allergic reaction to it.

It promotes exactly what all religions try to promote with all the added crap...peace love acceptance and all that it entails.

If you truely wish to believe in something that has never backtracked on itself never contradicted itself or felt anger/hate or sorrow for other 'religions'. It's exactly what 'god' would want people to be like on their own without his hand. He gave everyone freewill and too many make the wrong choices based on his teachings...which contradic the whole original meaning behind god/love.

Not knocking you for believing in something, just stating there are more realistic forms of a somewhat utopian society without religiou groupings. We're people simple as that.

  8. I agree with you somewhat man. I am definitely not your typical "Christian". However, I don't think there is anything wrong with choosing to call myself one and still considering myself a "rational" person. A lot of people would discount what we say just because we're "stupid potheads", so please don't do the same because I'm a Christian.

  9. Mass is Catholic, not Muslim...you probably knew that, just clarifying. I'm not Catholic, I'm Lutheran. We don't go to Mass. And of course it would be frowned upon to be obviously high in church. It's disrespectful. I wouldn't be high in church ever....reading religious books is one thing. I don't go every week, I go when I feel like it...and it's not too hard to not be high for 1 hour out of the day.

  10. I take it you haven't studied up on the faith? They prey religiously every day set time without fail. Imagine Christianity x100 in devotion... pass that to Hinduism and you'll see even more whole hearted devotion and surpass that with Buddism and being at peace with nothing.

As you go along most other religions are even stricter and poisoning ones body with amotivational filth probably isn't looked upon kindly in any faith.

Also, not knocking it at all. As long as theres understanding and acceptance of other peoples faiths without any type of snobbish or pitty directed towards them for being ignorant of what you believe is truth then be what ya wanna be.

Thats really all it's about...peace love acceptance and if you wanna push it being so loving of others you're willing to go without to help. Potheads are exactly that...I've yet to witness a friend who smokes shy from helping someone in need even if they had to give up something they wanted. I respect that more then any group donating a tiny bit so they can feel good about themselves...and in the end it's used to fix up their place of whorship before it's given to those in need.

  11. Islam is very fond of weed. Hookhas, hash, it all thrived in the middle east. And I heard marijuana makes you a terrorist, so it all makes sense now.

  12. Yeah, I have...I was just saying they don't call it Mass. That's all. As I said my faith is very personal and I don't push it on anyone.

  13. Actually I read something about this the other day. Arab-Muslims spread marijuana through ancient trade routes. Im pretty sure that Islam views marijuana as an herb, and also in the same category as tobacco, coffee, etc.

  14. im muslim, and i can tell u that smokin marijuana in islam is a sin..
no idea why though.. not really that religious or anythin.. lol

  15. but in the middle east, herb is still common. Alcohol is really bad to them.

  16. I don't know if anybody else has mentioned it, but I don't think there should be just a handful of religions where when you believe in one, you believe in all of it. I like the Wiccan philosophy of "to each his own path". Find you're own path in spirtuality. Mine, though, is simply none. Somewhere between Atheist and Agnostic.

  17. All's I know is that agnostics don't mind if you smoke pot, and if they do it's not because of a religion.

  18. A few years ago I noticed the connections between many of the world's religions. And if you go deep into the roots of common religions and many different religious movements, it's easy to see how many of the world's religions are different interpretations of the same supreme being. This has reinforced my belief that everyone needs to follow their own spiritual path and find their own beliefs.

  19. Yes. I have also noticed common themes and such in all major religions. I try to take things i think can better my life from each. Im a mutt of religion i guess. I think theres a higher being, too many things are unanswered and unexplained for me to believe otherwise, but i think people worship and view him/her/it in different ways. Niether are any better than the other. All have questions and loopholes.
