I have found this on this plant before higher up the plant and also on a different plant about a month ago. It looks like something spilled on it kinda Hell i dont know. This was found in the lower part of my powerplant...needless to say some leaves and little startup shoots got murdered. does it look like PM? heres some shots of the top and bottom of the leaves. Thanks.
looks more like bird crap or some other liquid to me. Powdery mildew will look like little strings of fuzz under high magnification...
well shit. ive got the mildew now myself. dont use neem oil. that shit does nothing. i got it last year and this is what i did. now this might sound crazy but i watched ol george cervantes do it and i had nothing else to lose so i tried it. you can google it and the video will pop up. i thought he was a nut when i first saw it but il be damned. it worked. after you harvest it, get a can of isopropyl peroxide (i think thats how its spelled). anyways get a big plastic storage tub and pour 8 0z of the peroxide into the tub. Then fill the tub with water, any water will do. I used just plain ol tap water. After the tub is full just give your plants a good 5 min bath and you will see the mildew rise to the top of the water, its cool and gross at the same time. after that, take your plants out and give em a good shake and hang em up. preferably outside and in the shade. get a fan on your plants and let it do its thing for a few hours. after the outside feels good and dry, then trim and put it with the rest of your drying buds. now like i said, you probably think it sounds dumb and crazy. i did too. if you feel hesitant about it then take your most infested bud and try it, if you dont like the results. dont do it. this is the best way ive found. its worked every time for me. i just let the mildew go until i pick the buds and give em all a bath and dry em and go on with the process like nothin happened.
It's hydrogen peroxide. You can get the 3% at the dollar store for super cheap. Yep, that's PM for sure. Dave from the garden of weeden, that sometimes is on Sub's show swears by lemon water for PM. He mixes it 1 to 3 lemon juice to water nd soaks the plants. PM can be harmless, but can also get down into the buds. Maybe one of the guys from the Pac NW can elaborate, as it is ominpresent up there.
Yea thats what it is!! Hahahahaha i mixed rubbing alcohol and peroxide together in that post! Dont use rubbing alcohol! lemon juice huh? Interesting.
Yea ive always just got it on my fan leaves. It kills the leaves eventually but ive personally never seen it get to the buds. Ive seen pics tho and it looks like it could really fuck up a plant.
Yep. Dave from Weeden swears by it. The cheap old bottled stuff has Sodium Benzoate and Bisulphate, so I was encouraged no to use that. I made some homeade instead from fresh lemons yesterday. 2 lemons per qt. I steeped the peels and all after I squeezed the lemons. It did not hurt the plant in any way. I can't really say at this time whether no more botrytis is a result of that or the returned beautiful, sunny weather. I am definitely going to make homeade concentrates to use on my nature hiking trips.
Yea I found it on a couple of my leaves the other day, I just removed them. Havent seen any since. @Poppy, thanks for reminding me of lemon water. I remembered Dave was talking about that before. Totally forgot lol I think i'll be doing that tonight.
Hey Reb, at least you know it isn't going to hurt the plants. And I believe the 1st time Sub filmed Dave using it, he said you can keep doing it as needed all the way to harvest. I asked Sub, and he mentioned it on the show, but never clarified if it was preservative free lemon juice or what. I'dstick with freshies if possible. Who knows what Sodium Benzoate might do to the leaves?
I would spray your plants with either some home remedy sprays or store bought spray mixes like Green Cure. Not sure if it can be used in flowering though. After spraying your plant I would remove all growth that has PM on it. What the home remdies and store bought products have in common is they raise the PH of the surface of the leaf to a point that PM spores cant be absorbed and infect a plant, kills spores already on the surface and prevents spores from growing on the leaves. I heard that flushing with highly Ph`d water can also help. If left untreated it can do alot of damage. Another home remedy is 3 parts water 1 part milk. Milk is high in PH. PM can also easily spread from one plant to another. Unfortunately PM is a systemic plant disease and there is no cure only preventative measures can be taken to prevent a plant from getting it or keep it from spreading once infected.
I tried the baking soda remedy last night and so far so good. I checked her this morning and the spots that were on her are gone. I missed a few spots last night cuz it was dark so i sprayed a gain this mornin. I put a quarter teaspoon of baking soda, a half a teaspoon of laundry detergent in a spray bottle n filled it up w water. I read that the baking soda doesnt affect the buds. This is true right?
Baking soda will not hurt the buds. Organic veggy grower friends use diluted baking soda, diluted milk and citrus fruit juices on many of their crops, which seem to work for some. Like tplat mentioned, pm is systemic. For home remedies to really be effective, you have to continuously reapply them.
Well the baking soda worked but only for a day. Then it popped back up. Just tried the lemon juice this mornin. Il let u know how it goes.
The BS needs to be stronger, Milk and water works good so does hydrogen peroxide all must be watered down 1 to5 - 1 to 9 parts water
