Is this nute burn or too much heat?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Reggae420, Apr 7, 2014.

  1. First off the plant is growing hydro.

I recently moved my lights up to 600W from 320W so I think it could be a heat issue.

But I also just switched the nutrient solution to the 3rd week cycle which is significantly stronger.

My PH was at 5.2 and I threw a few drops of PH up in there, 5.2 is pretty low but not low enough to cause this right?

Only the tallest leaf on one plant has it and the other plant (which has more roots in the water) does not have it at all.

    What do you guys think?

Unfortunately my PPM meter crapped out and I won't get a replacement until Tuesday.

Would you guys recommend putting some ph balance water in there?

I know that nute burn usually begins at the tips of the leaves which is why I am confused. It looks like a defincency to me but I just don't see how that could be, I have been giving it the exact amount of nutes suggested by Fox Farms. If it is a deficiency I am not sure how to handle it, this is my first time growing in hydro and I really don't want to mess it up already.

Any help would really be appreciated.

I would think 5.2 would be enough to lock out some nutes, but I am not s hydro guy. Fortunately what I do understand about hydro is that they recover quickly when you fix issues.

  4.
I raised it up to 5.6

The plant next to it is looking a little droopy and one of the leaves is getting a yellowy rust color but very lightly.

I caught this at the beginning so if it was the PH I should see it get better.

Hope someone else can provide a little more insight.

  5. I just had the same problem, when the pH is too low calcium will get locked out and cause yellow/rust colored spots in the leaves.

  6. Okay that is good to know. After doing some research I was thinking that or a magnesium deficiency was at fault.

When this happened to you what was your ph at and what did you correct it too?

How long did it take to show improvement?

I got the ph up to 5.8 and replaced a gallon of nutrient solution with regular water.

I checked the plants just now and they look worse than last night, it seems the one on the left has a full leaf that is shriveling up and dying. Here are some pictures, hope it's the same issue you had and it resolves itself quickly.

  7. My pH was in the low 5's when this happened to me. I corrected it to 6.0 for awhile and after a week the plants had enough new growth to where I could cut off the ugly yellowing leaves.

  8. What's the temperature of your reservoir?

    Awesome thanks alot man.

I don't have a thermometer to measure water temp but it does not feel warm.

My ph is now at 5.8, it has definitely gotten worse since yesterday but hopefully it starts getting better now.

  10. Definitely
, it should be around 65-68 degrees. The 600w light could be warming it up quite a bit like it was with my buckets. Mine was almost 80 degrees so I moved them to a cement floor closet in my basement where they now stay at 68. To test the water temperature I just use a long meat thermometer that was used for a turkey.

  12. Okay definitely looks like we had the same problem.

Turning down the lights probably helped reduce the heat of the water like you said so that should be good now.

Hopefully it works itself out soon.

    Thanks bud.

  13. I just got a new ph meter and after replacing 2 gallons of nutrient solution with regular water my ppm is at 1000.

This means that it was probably around 1300 before I replaced some of it, that could also be playing a part in how the plant looks.

Do you think i'm good at 1000 or should I lower it even more?

  14. I don't really check ppm's honestly, probably should though. From what I've read you might (not first hand experience) you might want to back it down closer to 500 until the plant heals a little then bring it back up.

Calibrate your ph meter before all critical use. I use them for a living and the error of cheaper meters are +/- 0.2 units so even in the perfect situation if you are at 5.6 that could be 5.4-5.8.

  16. Conductivity meters need calibration also but ime they don't get out of whack nearly as much as ph meters.

  17. I just use my GH liquid pH tester, make sure it looks like a dehydrated person's piss and call it good.

Those ph solutions are your lifeline to an accurate calibration. I've never tried this but I would assume even slight evaporation of your standard solution will change the standards ph and screw it up.

  19. Hey guys.

The plant is doing much better, showing new growth that is nice and green.

    Thanks for the help!!

  20. How are they doing now?
