Is this mold?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by gambloid, Oct 24, 2012.

  1. I just grabbed a slice from my dealer and cracked open the biggest bud and it looks like this inside. It's gray/white where the bud meets stem. I have no first hand account of mold but this looks like i would imagine it, I have some smaller buds that look normal from the same bag. Does it look safe to smoke?

  2. The pictures arent the sharpest but yes it appears to be mold. Its not really safe to smoke...can cause a lung infection and some forms of mold can kill you. My suggestion would be to toss it and try to get your money back. If you decide to keep it, toss all buds with visual mold and freeze the rest in an airtight jar. This will prevent new mold growth but thats the best you can do.

  3. think its safe to smoke the non-afflicted areas?

  4. Thats mold for sure. Please don't smoke that. Id suggest either tossing it, or making cannabutter out of it if you have enough tree. The boiling will kill the mold. I usually leave my butter to cook for 24 hours on low.

If it is mold the spores are everywhere.

Look at it with a loupe to be sure. Spores don't look like trichomes so you'll be able to tell very easily.

Edit to the guy above me:

Boiling water does not kill all molds. ~212 degrees Fahrenheit is not that hot. You need a pressure cooker to really destroy the stuff and that would probably degrade some of the actives. Plus some endospores can and will survive the pressure cooker.

  6. Oh yeah, that definitely looks moldy to me.

Like YoSmokinMan said, mold spores are already everywhere anyway. You can't just cut out the moldy parts and call it good, you'll still be inhaling mold spores.

You should have a discussion with your dealer.
