hi everyone, First time grower here, I've done a lot of reading and watching YouTube tutorials over the course of this grow. A bit of information about my grow.. I sense I am nearing harvest as the hairs on the buds are slowly turning brown and the larger older fan leaves are yellowing (which I read is a sign the plant is draining the nutrients). My plan is to feed the plant some half strength bio bizz bloom nutes this week (I feed her once every two weeks) as she continues to bloom. There are no visible calyxs formed. So below are the images of my plant, it's bag seed and originally my friends and i joked about growing a plant instead of throwing the seeds into the bin. I started 7 seeds and 3 seeds sprouted in the end of October last year and here we are after 6 long months. Of the three, I had two larger plants however they turned into boys and I sadly had to chop them down. With my three plants I tried different things, one plant was left to grow naturally, one was fimmed and one was topped. As mentioned earlier the fimmed and natural plant turned to boys and were chopped and so I'm left with the topped girl. Note that the girl was the weakest and slowest developing of the three. I'm doing an indoor/outdoor grow, the plants were in pots and I moved the outside on a sunny day otherwise they sat under cover by a window. I used no artificial lighting. I don't pH my water, I used organic soil with nutes in it from a hardware store, mixed in some Perlite (1:3 ratio perlite to soil). I'm using 18L pots (around 4 gallons). For my nutes I'm using bio bizz grow and bloom, I followed the guide it comes with but used half strength and do it fortnightly. I also mix in a cap of seaweed solution I got from a super market for $4. I tried to keep the grow as cheap, simple and organic as possible. Problem: I have noticed one particular nodes flowers hairs browning visibly faster than the other large nodes. The leaves growing out of the buds are nice and green and the flowers themselves smell fine. They're visibly not as frosty as the other buds too. I fear there's budrot? The plant is in my large living room, it's well ventilated and at nights I fan the plant a bit in case. Photo 1: the overall plant Photo 2: a healthy frosting bud Photo 3: the larger tops Photo 4: top down view of the cola that's browning faster than others. Notice the hairs are shorter and browner and less frosting. Photo 5: side view of the the cola that's browning faster than the others. Again notice less white hairs on this node in comparison to the others. Your help, advice and expertise are much appreciated thank you!!!
It looks like it might be bud rot to me, but I'm not sure. You said you keep the plant in your living room. Do you have a way of keeping it in complete darkness for 12 hours each night? It doesn't look like your plant is getting enough light as well. I hope this helps!
Yeah it's in the living room unless it's moved outside because of the weather. I can move it into complete darkness at night and will be more diligent going forward! I looked between the flowers for the node in question and see no signs of any white mound or rot. The light issue is hard to resolve because it's moving into winter now and it's raining a lot Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
The leaves etc all look fine though which is confusing. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Anyone know how far off I am from harvest? I'm three weeks into flowering. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I think your plant is about right on for 3 weeks into flowering, but from the conditions you described I think the browning is due to the lack of a completely dark 12 hour cycle. Plant thinks it's revegging and the flowers begin to die off. Are the brown spots near a lamp or something?
Thanks for the reply! The plant is actually not grown under lights! If it's sunny outside I put the plant out in the sun, otherwise it's in my lounge room by a window. As its moving to the end of autumn now it's colder and rainier. The plant doesn't get exact 12/12, as I guess there's artificial light in the lounge room from people moving around at night. I'll start to diligently move the plant into a completely dark room for 12 hours with a oscillating fan from tonight. The brown buds are not close to a light, if anything the plant overall is lacking light Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
The long, completely dark period is extremely important for flowering. In complete darkness, the flowering hormone builds up and becomes active. Any exposure to light during the dark period will inactivate the flowering hormone. Good luck and I hope you are enjoying some of those buds in a few weeks!
