Ok to make it as short as possible. I dont want to live with money. I dont want to work everyday to get this stuff called money. I believe a much stronger and profound sense of happiness can be achieved with little to no money, and without the material items that come along with it. I have a couple months until I can move out. I dont have much money. Like 6 grand at most. I could get a job right off the bat and work to live, and support myself in a house or apartment. For just the sake of living with a roof over my head i guess.... OR, I could drop these obligations, let the money accumulate in the bank. And purchase the necessary supplies for a personal odyssey. I need some good camping supplies and such, and I basically want to roam the countryside of the united states for a while. Living off the land and such. When i tell people this they ask me what i will eat and where i will stay every night. I'm going to take what i can from the wilderness, and use as little money as possible to get freeze dried veggies and such. Also, i dont want to sleep in a hotel every night, i literally want to sleep out in the woods and get away from all of this for a long time and just write. No car, television, electricity or computer. Am i crazy or should i just go for it and carve a new path for myself?
I say go for it , bro. The rat race can become extremely overwhelming. Maybe get a book on survival techniques , like getting food and such ? It would help alot I think.
You're telling me... that you don't know how to get bud by living out in the wilderness by yourself with NOBODY else around? Really dude? Where has common sense gone these days?
I have this book called Dwelling Portably. It is a composite of tips for living out on your own. Ways to find shelter, free food, etc... It has a ton of recommendations for what materials to bring, what kind of containers, and all sorts of helpful information. I'd also recommend picking up a version of Abbie Hoffmans "Steal this Book." Some of the information is severely outdated (it was written in the 60's), but it still has some useful tips about how to get free food and shelter. I'd also recommend that you stay within' a few days hike from a town or city. This way if money gets short and you need more supplies, you could always get a few week job at a Mcdonalds, burger king, etc... If you go through with this plan (I seriously support you) you will be living out my dream. I still plan to do it, or something similar in my lifetime, but I couldn't financially back myself for the start quite yet. Anyways, good luck, and I hope you do it. If you can, stop into free cafes on your journey and give us an update. I'd love to read all about it.
well honestly its not my main concern but i do have 25 kush seeds that i will put to good use once i settle down somewhere.
go for it man! thats one of my dreams, to just be able to live off the land away from society. Its just a thought, but have you ever considered instead of just living by yourself camping out in the wilderness, you could get together a group of friends or other like minded people, have everyone pitch in money, find a nice place, and just buy like 20 acres up there, and have everyone that lives there be assigned a job, like someone is incharge of building, crops, water, ect..., that way you can be truely self sustaining, and asside from the initial land purchase you would probably never have to spend a single dollar.
Do it. Don't let people dictate your life. You WILL learn more about yourself, life, and people in general. I had a similiar dream at one time. Now, at 29, I am starting to head towards it again. More power to you brother. Goodluck, and be sure to get quality gear.
thats a good idea. But I kind of want to stay on the move, not in one place for too long. There is just far too much to see and experience before settling down
It is an addiction, I warn you. I have been to every continent except Antarctica, I have camped/rock climbed in atleast 15 countries around the world. Visited way more than that. I never did just 'head out' with no plans like I always wanted though. I would like to make a recommendation though. Do it on a bike with a little trailer. Something kinda like this... I would prefer a little bit more c.i. though. I had one like this when I lived in Spain: Dwelling Portability link as mentioned earlier Cannot forget, when and if you settle down...Slab City
You will need to read EXTENSIVELY on survival techniques, or expect to be dead after the first winter, unless you live somewhere where it never snows. The second concern is probably food. If you don't want to find your own food out in the wild (gathering berries, trapping small game, etc), just spend 300-400 dollars on ramen, and that will last you a LONG, LONG time. Water can be gotten for free from any water fountain, etc. If worse comes to worse, you can always boil water you find in a stream/pond/lake. If you end up doing this, props to you. I've actually done it for about 1 month at a time before, it's pretty cool.
well considering the guy said he wanted to "ROAM THE COUNTRYSIDE", that would mean he would have to up-root his seedlings everytime he wanted to ROAM TO ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRYSIDE unless he plans on staying for 4 months at every destination to wait on his harvest.. im just saying bud doesnt grow over night.... jeeze where has the common sense gone??
thats great man....I could never live without some sort of technology though...mainly due to I need music.
Anyone thought that maybe he is not gonna do this whole trip stoned? I wonder if some people could live without the herb.
i know what you mean. I love playing guitar, bass guitar and drums, but there is no way i can just bring a guitar or bass along with me. Sure i could probably string an acoustic behind my back but in the end i need to be as light as possible and only bring the necessities to survive. When i get an established location, maybe build a cabin or something. Then its all good to bring in the guitars and plant a huge garden
Buy a shack out in the woods and go off the grid. You can live without electricity or generate your own (wind turbines, solar panels) heat (woodstove). Try and get a well started, and spend your days hunting and choppin wood. I knew a man who did this and lived like that for a long while (havn't seen him in some time). You would still need some cashflow though, he sold maryjane in large amounts every once in a while and then go out and buy what he needed (ammo, tools etc). Im not sayin "do this" but its a possibility...
My old English teacher dropped out of college, put money into a investment bank and went to Europe for 3-4 years and lived as a bum. Came back had a lot more money and said it was a great experience.
