Is this a good potting soil

1. What´s in it ?

2. 40% canadian sphagnum peat moss
35% composed organic material ( forest products and/or reed sedge peat )
20% vermiculite
5% washed sand

and on the bag it says mix includes time release plant food

3. I googled it and:
New Era Potting Soil Clinton Nursery Products Peat humus, Canadian sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, coarse sand, dolomitic limestone 6.0-6.5

It looks like it has a good organic mixture to begin with. You might want to add some kind of compost, worm casts, maybe chicken or horse manure. Others will weigh in with some of their tried and true mixes. In the future Alvin, try to give as much information as you can so we can all help you with our individual experiences. It definitely looks like a good start for a soil mix.

4. Timed released nutes are not good........you do not have control of the release of the fertilizer.

EDIT - I see it has time release ferts - ditch it.

6. even if it didnt have the nutes i would say that it wasnt good based upon the really high pH of the sphagnum peat moss. Usually it drives the soil pH way below 6.2-6 after you start growing and watering

7. I thought sphagnum moss was acidic - low pH.

8. my bad cath... it is acidic. ment to say low. But yea it usually drives the pH way down after some watering
