Is this a boy? (pics)

  1. Hey GCers, this is my first indoor, box grow and this "guy" is one of four I've got cooking. The other three aren't showing anything yet, so I'm a little concerned this one might be a male. I don't know what pre-flowers look like, so I don't wanna start drying him out for other uses unless I know for sure these are balls.

This is 9 days into flowering at 12/12, after vegging for 30 days or so at 24/0 and 18/6. Sorry for the less than professional shots, but I'm still trying to figure out the macro settings...

Thanks tons in advance for your insight!

  3. pull up your zipper buddy..*erm* your ballz are showing

  4. Dat's a boy.

  5. Thanks, y'all. I'm on the fence between either clipping the little buggers off as they appear and letting him grow a little more just to use for hash, or just pullin' him out all together to mix up a small batch of Green Dragon :yummy: .

Either way, I appreciate your confirmation that he does need to be neutered. What can I say? I'm a responsible pot owner

    Have a great one!

  6. Clipping and pulling the pollen sacs runs a big risk of pollinating the females. By clipping and pulling you are disturbing the pollen sacs and can release the pollen that way, and there also is the chance you will miss a sac before it pops. You may not dust your females in pollen this way, but some stray grains could result in some stray seeds in your bud.

  7. Gotcha & mucho thanks for the input.

Well, I am gonna take him out of the box for sure anyway, and I may or may not try to keep him on life support in a different room with natural light through a window - while still clipping the sacs and smoking them as I've read in the City that there seems to be some THC value to them  . I ~know~ I don't want to perpetuate the male cycle in my grow, I'm just also not so sure if going through all this (separating, clipping, etc) is worth the effort and risk just to let the male get bigger to provide more leaves and stems for cannabudder or Green Dragon, ya know?

You know how it is; you watch 'em grow and the last thing you wanna do is just cut 'em off at the knees :( .

I guess I do know the right (and safest) answer; I'm just in denial :(

  8. Just put him in another room, and save him for hash :).

  9. Yes send him to the hashish production room :(

Those are very good pics also, good quality.

  10. I'm not really a fan of male genatals so i'll just click the back button.... :p

    sorry dude

  11. Well, thanks for the input everyone, as well as the compliment to my wife's and my amateur still-life photography ;) . After a long but successful surgery, I snipped off all his goods, even what appeared to be little flowers at the tips of some of the branches (the last pic kinda shows one of 'em). I wound up really cutting a good deal of leaves and teeny unhealthy branches that were deep inside the fan leaves, so I'll have to wait and see how badly he got stressed out and whether he survives. I do have him in the "recovery room" under natural light now along with a ~second~ plant which I was able to determine was a male by your guys' input with this one.

Crap, four plants and I've already got two males :( I do know that at least ~one~ is definitely a female as I can see the single little hair popping through on multiple sites. Unfortuntately, the verdict is still out on the third. But that's why I wanted to get these horny buggers the hell out of there ASAP.

Anyway, as I said, I clipped all the little sacs and flowers off the males and am letting them dry out so I can cure them a little but before trying to smoke 'em. The flowers (still green) are only maybe a .5 cm tall and the largest pollen sac is only the size of a sesame seed now that they're drying out. I don't know what effect they'll have as far as a buzz, but I'll let you know. I didn't want to wait until they got bigger and risk having them give the lady a money shot  . I can tell you that the smell of the plants was making me sick as I was clipping them - I'm thinking it's cuz they were still being well fertilized when I had to pull & pluck them. I'm gonna start flushing the two males right now so that at least their leaves won't taste like ass when I do need or decide to start drying them out. It's weird though, because the smell inside the box (and down the hall...and downstairs  ) is awesome - very strong bud smell, but sitting with my nose almost in the plant damn near made me puke:confused_2:

And yeah, I'm also drying the leaves that I cut off last night to use for butter or Green Dragon, and I'm keeping an eye on the two males now that they've been neutered in order to cut & dry them quickly in case they take a turn for the worse and start dying in the pots.

But thank you all for your quick responses; you rock! You definitely saved me from having an entire batch of bagseed males

  12. Maybe save 1 male for hash, take the other and a female (if you get two females) and produce seeds? Save the other female for bud. Just an idea, :)

  13. Actually, it turns out that THREE of the four are males! We've pulled two out already and "neutered" and pruned them, but the third is still immature (aren't we all ;) ) so we're gonna leave him in the box for another couple days or so until his oats start getting a little bigger before we yank him out, too. Fortunately, though, the fourth one is ABSOLUTELY a girl!:hello: So now I've got this big grow box set up for one freakin' plant  .

We ~did~ smoke a few of the wee little pollen sacs last night but the buzz was minimal at best - probably more of a butane buzz. I don't know if it's just cuz they were still so small (sesame seed-sized) or b/c they weren't allowed to cure. But anyway, I'd have to say nothing really came from smoking them. We are still drying all the green leaves I pruned off the males, and we are going to make hash and/or cannabutter with it.

Oh well, one female is still better than none at all.

  14. Yeah dude, don't smoke the pollen sacks. They are really pretty useless unless you want to pollinate a female.

Sorry to hear that 3 out of 4 were males. that happens sometimes. That's why femenized seeds or clones are the way to go. Not sure how far along your female is, but it may not be too late to take clones if you haven't already.

    Good luck.
