Is there a way to convince myself that I don't want/need weed?

  1. I'm a medical, and long-time (10 years, beginning at 13) recreational smoker. I am at a point in my life where I really have to focus to get to that next level of where I want to be. I lost my connect in January and its been iffy ever since usually dro at 20 a g and swag for 25 an ounce but its been fairly dry, at least with the few people I know, I usually have a little bit for a while, but I tend to smoke it too fast, prefering blunts and joints (because its swag) instead of the bong which tends to burn my chest. But I really would like to feel like I DONT have to have it, even though I do use it for fibromyalgia, maybe diet and exercise should be enough? But whatever, any mantras or positive words? I can't stress out about it, know what I mean?

  2. Its pretty tough to do. Something that helps me is really thinking about how people who dont smoke feel. Put yourself in their shoes and really make yourself feel independent of weed just like they are. Whenever you get a craving just focus as hard as you can on the mindset of a sober person.

  3. MJ ain't addictive, thats the word, but some get addicted to the 'high' but it's not real addiction, just compulsion ... like falling in love for the first time, it's all new and cool, smart growers/users have a rest, some really do 'control' there interest in MJ, having just one joint a week, (I wish I could) others more experienced prefer to holiday one week off per month, just so the THC reduces a bit from your body, so the next joint you blaze like crazy

You might want to CONTROL your interest in MJ by growing your own, it's cheaper and not so readily available, to tempt you.

It's all about your compulsion, and how this compulsion can work for you

  4. Yea there are a ton of things that I've been wanting to do, or do more of, and I'm pretty sure if I was sober, I would. Appreciate the good comments so far.

  5. I understand what you mean. I admit to being addicted to the high it helps me to move on with my life. When I get upset i smoke when I havnt smoked in a few hours I smoke. I smoke when I wake up and going to bed. I also use it for medical purposes. No medicine out there makes me able to eat other than weed. It takes away my every morning extreme nausea and pain and makes it possible for me to eat breakfast and if I smoke more later I can eat lunch and then dinner. Days of no weed I simply don't eat (I barely ate growing up!). It also helps with my depression and getting to sleep at night. I can't sleep without it.

Okay I just wanted to explain why I use it. I understand why you use it and understand why you question as to why you need it. Even with it helping many of my problems (and more of which I did not list) I too have a hard time getting what needs to be done, done. I also find it difficult to move forward but that has partially to do with other factors. I find it easier to get things done as soon as possible or as soon as I relize it needs to be done. This is because I suffer from weed induced memory loss and I also get spurts of energy and if I don't use that energy when I have it then it is quickly followed by me being completely done and just wanting to stare at the tv for the rest of the day. I find that after I come home after the day and smoke I am pretty much done for the rest of the day so i make myself do cleaning and what not pretty much as soon as I get home because I still have the energy to do so since my body has not yet had the opportunity to relax. So your probably thinking what's that got to do with you, but it's just a suggestion of how I deal with that problem. Just get what you need to do done before you let your body relax and you no longer feel like doing anything.

As for deciding if you truly do need weed of if it really helps you, only you can make that choice. If you feel life would be equal or better without it than go for that. It's really about will power and making conscience decisions as to what's good or best for you. if you find yourself addicted to that high like me try and enrich your life with new things and slowly push the weed out of the equation. Again it's all about will power tell yourself that your making the right choice for you and though it's hard now the feeling can't last and things will only get better if you make them and work toward it. Not every day is a good day :)

If weed is what you decide just try to control it. Maybe set a limit of how much you can smoke a day and space out when you smoke. Smoke when its going to help you, not just get you high. Like I smoke when I need to eat not right after I have eaten. I hope this helps and thanks for reading my long post I like to write haha.. Erm or I mean type.

  6. Mind over matter.. But.. What is mind? No matter.. What is matter? Nevermind... :smoke:

  7. I got the same prob bro... I figured out why I can't quit thou, and it's because deep down, in the back of my head I really don't wanna stop- I love it too much and has become part of my life like eating and shitting. .... I have been smoking since 17 , an am now 22- wow it's been 5 years and still goin strong

  8. look into tai chi way better than smoking, myself am trying to stop been since september I havent really smoked.
I feels good to be sober aswell its like another drug.
Try and stop for a month just a tea break n when you next hit a blunt the next day you might feel like you never wanna smoke again, at least it happened to me.

Get together loads of things to do, weed is a time filler it makes me (I can only speak of myself as everyoen is different) happy to just chill and do nothing, whereas if I don't smoke ill get bored just chillin and ill end up getting shit done.
go get high on life, go into the mountains if ur near em or to the beach, but I must admit just being in a peaceful place makes me wanna smoke. You just gotta challenge yourself to stop smoking.,. If you strong you stop if not you're week or sumthing along those lines.. all boils down to self disipline really

    Drugs are bad mmkay

    Marijuana is addictive.

Your brain contains naturally occurring Cannabinoids, which are of course also found in Marijuana. They are used to help regulate sleep patterns, mood, and appetite.

When you smoke Marijuana over a period of time, your brain/body stops producing normal amounts of its own Cannabinoids, instead using those taken in from smoking Marijuana as a substitute.

If you were to stop smoking Marijuana, your body will take several days (up to about a week) to begin producing the full levels of naturally occurring Cannabinoids on it's own again.

    This constitutes addiction.

However mild the withdrawal symptoms may be in comparison to withdrawal from other drugs, the symptoms do include mild irritability, trouble sleeping, and decreased appetite.

Basically, the way to stop or quit is the same as with any other drug; a little will power goes a long way.

  11. It's true. They all went bat shit crazy after they tried to quit smoking... sad stuff. After they ran out of their supply of THC Worms, they resorted to drinking old bong water with Penis Straws. This resulted in general craziness, and before they knew it they were pooping in the chimney. The incredibly high THC content of the worms had completely demolished their motor skills, 'n they all fell off the ladder on the way down.

All the kings horses and all the kings men just simply could not put them back together again...

  13. I quit smoking about 6 years ago. I haven't smoked since, however, I am around it with some friends. It is easy after the first couple of times you refuse it. I remember after my 3rd party and 3rd refusal, it was very easy. You do not need weed to enjoy life. I have recently quit drinking as well. I think you just need to be around positive people and positive vibes. I know when I was a heavy toker I had some negative energy in my life, and I used weed as a means to escape those negative thoughts. Now, I am pretty fucking relaxed with life and tend be surrounded by positive people and vibes. I did ditch a lot of my old friends, some of them accounted for my negative outlook on life. Once you get to a higher level, you will notice you are around more positive people, no matter the situation. Learn to enjoy the little things in life. Don't take things for granted. Be happy towards others and they will be happy towards you. Be trustworthy and honest about everything. Get things off your chest in a polite manner, and help resolve situations, making things easy on people and showing them how to correct things. Do not bottle up anger or lash out at others, be chill. Good luck.

Man I forgot when they went crazy and pooped in the chimney before dinner..fucking mickey rooney.

On a side note.. its marijuana, simply have some will power.

It's not like you're going to die from not smoking.

@SilentBob..if you quit smoking 6 years ago, why do you go on a marijuana forum? Just curious.. because that would be like being straight and only buying gay porn.

  15. Thank you for introducing science to show that it IS addictive even if its much less addictive than other drugs.

People say the most ignorant things like its not addictive its just a compulsion. Well what the fuck is the difference between a compulsion and I mild addiction.

People get addicted to weed the same way people are addicted to video games, sex, masturbation or shopping.

Then you get the people who say mind over mater, just have will power etc etc, Well no fucking shit but how does that help. It offers no advice.

My advice which has worked for me personally is to find a satisfying activity that excites you and really makes you feel good and to persue it.

Do something that is entertaining and/or rewarding. As an example, I like to grow a vegetable garden every year. Planting the seeds, watering the seedlings, preparing the soil, dealing with the inevitable pests... it fills my day so I don't even think about weed.

Well I think about it at night and I haven't actually quit, just taking a break and cutting way back but thats what works for me.

Stay busy doing what you love to do or even just chat on a forum with people who share a common interest or go for a walk. But I highly reccomend starting a project or hobby[IMG]
