Is my seedling dying?

  2. Is the bend in the stem "pinched-looking"? (Can't tell from the photo.) If it is, then yes, your seedling is dying from a fungal disease commonly called "damping off". If it has "damped off", there is nothing that can be done for it. :cry:

    To reduce the risk of "damping off", you should first nuke your seedling's soil by running your damp potting mix through the microwave until it is steaming hot! That kills the spores of damping off. Just be sure to let it cool completely before adding your sprouted seeds.(takes longer than you'd think)

    If the stem is still round, water that baby! The soil is cracking because it is too dry! Water it gently so you don't disturb the newly-grown roots. If your seedling straightens up after watering, it has a chance of making it. Light will turn it green.

    And it looks like you planted it a bit too shallowly. You might want to add a little more potting mix around it, if it decides to live.
