ive used search feature but couldnt find what i was looking for so sorry in advance if ive missed something. my parents both say that to germinate in the soil, the plant needs only moisture and heat to sprout, and once it has sprouted then use light. So my question is: is that true? because i have my 6 pots places in the hot water cupboard, which keeps very warm at all times
Im pretty sure they dont need light till they sprout..Imo its easier to germinate them in a paper towel then plant it.
Their correct... However, heat does not mean "HOT". I would recommend you consider germinating in a paper towel rather than dirt. Put the seeds in a room temperature cup of water overnight. Then put them between damp paper towels in a nice dark place. Keep the paper towels damp and you should start seeing sprouts in a day or so. By the way, the seeds that are on the bottom of the cup of water the next morning are probably the ones that will germinate. Those floating, may or may not. The white sprout you see is the tap root. Once you see the tap root, plant it root down in your soil. Read through these forums and you will find out all you need to know about soil and lights... Good luck!
thanks alot fellas. perfect answers. i would have germinated them in papertowels if i didnt rush into it... i should have read about it before planting the seeds... oh well - just hope it works alright germinating them in soil.
No problem... put a piece of plastic over the tops of the pots to keep the moisture in until you see the sprouts break the soil.

I have a 15w fleuro set up for when it sprouts, and by the time it does sprout i would have bought 3 or 4 double-bulb fleuros (45w each, 2 tubes... 2 bulb each tube) so i know that should be enough - but i've heard from many people that the plant needs only heat to sprout and it's light from there... so i hope you're wrong
ok, i've taken them out of the hot water cupboard (its not too warm in their after all) and put them back in my wardrobe with the light running 24/0, i have also taken off all the tin foil on the walls and it is now white paint. Wish my babies luck.
