I (24M)have been in for 3.5 years. I’ve been at my second duty station (Hawaii) for a few months now and I hate it! It made me hate the army! It was nothing like my last unit. I wanted to stay in and be a high rank like my cousin (32M) In the marines but it doesn’t seem like it’s worth it at this point. I hate waking up early to do PT, running, ruck marches(oh the blisters) going to the field nonstop, melting in the hot sun wearing uniform carrying heavy shit, and so much more! Also I miss smoking weed without worrying about drug test!!! I wanted to stay in so family can respect me if I get a high rank and Stuff. I have so much bills I only keep $150 every paycheck for melting and working my ass off everyday. TL;DR - I’m scared to get out of army bc I have no degree. But I hate every damn day. Is it worth it ? I want to be a lawyer or something better than this. Please help.
How do you have so much free time to post all these threads if you're really in the army Jeffy?? & I swear you've been 24 for like 3 years on here now lol Edit: @Jeffersong808 ur profile says you're 28
Im not really sure but I think you have to stay in the American military until a certain amount of time. ~Toni~
When I went into the Marone Corps, I was set on doing my 20 and retiring....after I got in and got to my unit.....the 4 years enlistment contract couldn't end soon enough!! If I were in a different MOS(job) I probably would have stayed in, but they wouldn't let me change so I hot out...........and I was stationed in Hawaii too...Kaneohe Bay for me...since you're Army you're at.....Schofield(sp) right?
I did 3 years national guard, it wasnt for me, i wish i went full time, the guards were a joke, if you dont like the military get out, talk to your 1st sgt and just tell him you cant do it anymore, there is a possibility they can get you out, especially if you have something going on in your head, just act crazy and they will get you out, they dont like unstable soldiers Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
As someone who was in the marine corps and hated it, i’d still say to stay in cause the civilian world doesn’t give a shit about you. If your MOS isnt one where you can make money in the civilian world you’ll essentially be no better than a high school graduate in the eyes of many employers. College is good but that 4 years still doesn't count as employment history. Iono. Have a good plan if you wanna get out like a job and place to stay lined up. Have money saved cause once those checks stop hitting BOY lol.
Dang I'm sorry to hear your peers respect others based on which job application they filled out and stagnanted at. Sent from my Z965 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Salute to you. When i left san diego some old high rank gave me so much crap for leaving, about how when they were my age they were leading a battallion, i said *Sir yes sir* but was thinking.. You could have died in bootcamp and been replaced in a week. Ego builders I don't think they care anymore about you than corporate cares about some register jocky. What i learned from this was. In the 1900s war and military was mostly honorable people, models. Now its a place where misfits who have no direction go. When i was there a few years ago, they all talked about cheating on their spouses and partying. Oh if the billboards would show what truly 2019 military is. Hell some guy got kicked out because he (in chow hall) smacked the guy in front on the ass and said hurry up. Rumor had it the kid was sueing him but i dont know. Look at a potential cross training for reenlistment. If they can't guarantee it, get out. You can always talk to a recruiter and get back in or go into another Service, dependant on your reenlistment code. https://www.dd214.us/reference/Reenlistment_Codes.pdf Sometimes it can be pretty grueling, but you are staying in better shape than most of your peers on the outside. I just know that I sure don't mind my extra $3000 a month retirement from my time in.
Thank you but to clarify I mean this idea that our country takes care of veterans is bullshit. Not that the military cares about you more than a civilian does job but in a sense they do. My superiors always took an interest in my life and helped me through tough times. Even though i hated it, I made the best friends and had amazing memories. Civilian life has been shit compared to that. I may have “freedom” but theres a lot that I don’t have such as cheap government flights and now im 75lbs heavier. Omfg i cant believe I said that out loud. Anyway, nothing is worth your sanity but the grass isnt always greener.
Yeah it must be rough coming back after serving your country to a country that has either a hard time taking care of veterans or they lack the effort to do so Sent from my Z965 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
There are people who are earning their degree while serving. Maybe think about becoming a cyber warfare operator and joining the air force.
He won't come back...Pretty sure I asked the same question years ago. I don't even think he is in the military, honestly...But if he is, he most definitely shouldn't be.
Private Pyle do you always ask a weedforum what you should do regarding important life choices? What is your major malfunction?
I have friends who couldn't find jobs as civilians until they stopped putting that they were a military veteran on the resume/job apps.
