Would it be possible to make a smaller carbon filter? I see everyone talking about carbon filters to reduce the smell of like 5+ plants. But what about just 1 plant? Is it possible to make a smaller one using a CPU fan?
sweet. i was just talkin about my old small carbon filter a whiley ago... like maybe a dozen posts ago or so.
*ahem* or to reply more properly: yes, its possible. i made one using a 90mm pc fan hooked up to a mobile phone's power extension (+ splicing & taping), some cardboard, tape, some holes, some tubing from a hamster cage complex thing (u'know the type), a bag of activated carbon from the pet shop (for fish aquariums supposedly), and some more tape and glue. it worked ok. though when it got to those later stages of flowering, y'know, if you brushed against the plants, you really needed at least one other method of dealing with the smell. i had an ionizer which emited a small amount of ozone. it did the job. but i would still have prefered to have had a bottle of nilodor on standby as a second backup, and then something else as a third (since things break in threes, wise to get at least a third backup).
oh ok so the PC fan will create enough suction or pull hard enough for the job? Think it will get rid of the smell of one plant inside a PC tower?
Hey Digit, what are you doing here in the grow forums! Back I say! Just kidding, good advice. Hes right that is one way to do it. You can also purchase a negative ion generator. $15-$100, depends on the quality you want.
theres a thread somewhere around here about building a wicked cheap carbon scrubber. it looks like it would work just fine for one plant and you could run it off of a 4" high speed fan from walmart. the fan is only like 5 bucks
