is it harder to roll with or without a roach?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by KushSmokaa, Jan 27, 2011.

  1. im not exactly an experience roller because ive rolled only like 3 or 4 times but they didnt come out horrible, they just werent really as tight as they wouldve been if someone more experienced rolled them anyway.

im getting a pack of papers tomorrow and i only have a dime currently [.5] so should i attempt to toss a roach in there? how do you make a roach, im not a complete noob but ive seen different ways to roll with a roach. should i just roll up a little piece of cardboard or is there a better way?

also should i even put a roach in or no? because it seems like rolling with roaches is more advanced technique.

also should i put the whole dime in? its a pretty fat dime so idk if i should roll like a .3 joint and save the rest for a little bowl pack? thanks

btw dont tell me to just smoke it all in the bowl cuz i wanna roll a joint and try to learn better. peace :smoke:

  2. Its all preference and how much time you want to spend.

Rolling up a filter from the paper pack, or using someone's old cigarette filter is what I do (use Blacks, they taste like vanilla!) when I want a filter.
It will mean that your joint should be as thick as the filter, so a cardboard one should do just fine for .3

Check out the "perfection in rolling" guide at the top of the Apprentice forum, it gives step by step info and pictures. It should help a lot!

  3. sued to roll jays my whole life till about 6 yrs. ago switched to bowl. Theres not a way to make a roach, its just whats left over after smoking joint. Usually would save my roaches for awhile then when all regular weed was gone would roll up the roaches. There a little harder being having the smoke and resin so take out of paper and cut up with some scissors. Either way you could add to doobie to make bigger or save a few and roll a roach jay. unroll some cigarettes and reroll to practice or use a dollar bill as a roller for nice tite doobs

I find that for a smaller joint, it's easier to roll without a roach because otherwise the roach would have to be really small as well and that just gets kind of difficult. If I'm rolling a larger joint, then it's easier to roll with a roach. I use a rolled up strip of index card for my roaches, but like the guy above said, it's all personal preference really.

EDIT: The above poster is also correct, in a way, it all depends on your region. I actually use roach for both the filter and what's left of my joint when I'm done smoking, but it varies from person to person and from place to place.

  5. ok ill try that i just think rolling with roaches seems more of an experience rolling thing since there not necesarily needed but i like having something to hold onto.

and do you think i should roll only .3 and pack the other .2 in a piece?

also i did look at the perfection in rolling thats what got me thinking if i should use a roach or not lol

  6. I usually make filters out of index card, it's very easy and effective.

  7. no i didnt mean that roach lol.

i meant rolling up cardboard to make a filter sorry i shoudlve been more clear, but if you use a cardboard filter then cant you not smoke it down all the way in risk of burning cardboard and inhaling the ink or cardboard fumes or whatever

  8. For a .5g joint I wouldn't use a roach. Anything bigger then you should just roll it up and add the roach afterwards. Though I'm sure there are people whom do it vise-versa.

  9. its so much easier to roll a tight joint with a filter.

    TRUST ME.
the hardest part of rolling a j is when you gotta tuck the paper under. right?
well with a filter it makes is a 100 times easier.

Also say you joint didn't come out as tight as you wanted? with a filter it's no problem. just poke it down and make it tight.

I myself im trying out a few techniques of rolling joints. pm me if you wanna roll a really tight one. oh and practice with tea. seriously rolling granulated tea from tea bags is much harder than rolling weed. so ull be a pro if u do.

  10. Roll with a crutch... It forces you to form a cone.... regardless of if you want to or not... With a crutch there's better airflow so even a tight roll is smoke-able. I rarely smoke without them.

  11. depends on how you roll the weed, how you roll the crutch and most importantly how much of weed there is. and you dont ever have to roach your stuff with a crutch. just smoke it till the filter.

  12. can you specify what a crutch is? sorry im a noob at rolling

  13. a crutch is a roach/filter

  14. I usually just roll the joint with a little bit of room then just pack the roach in there

  15. yeah i can't roll with the roach in the paper as im rolling, so i roll without one then squeeze the roach in there, which makes for a secure roach usually since it'll be tight.

  16. i find it near impossible to roll without a filter. and if i want it tight, forget it. *goes tolls a crutch* my precious *evil smile*

  17. For me, I always use a roach.

If you can't get to a headshop and get a little booklet of roach card, the poster who said index cards seems to be a good idea; I also use the front of the packet of papers, the flap; or the inside of a cigarette packet lid. However you only need a piece of card that is about 0.5inches x 0.75inches. Don't use loads of card, unless you want a really fat roach. Trick is not to roll it so tight that you can't inhale, but not too loose so that you end up with a nice conical joint.

I always start with the roach already in the paper when I pack the green in, it allows me something to wrap the paper around.

However, there is another funny technique that the arabs use, which is to use the bottom of a cigarette ie not the filter, but the tobacco next to it. I don't like this one too much as you get pieces to tobacco in your mouth, but it does give the j some support.

  18. im gonna get the papers tomorrow so whats the conclusion roach or no roach?

im thinking im just gonna roll without it since im not to expert of a roller yet, i mean i could always get more bud and im gonna have atleast 20 papers so by the end of this pack i should be good enough sound good? opinions please
    :smoke:

  19. It's definitely easier to roll with a roach, in my experience, when I was talking about small joints, I meant really small, if you're rolling one anywhere close to what a normal person would smoke, a roach will help you every step of the way.
