Is It Better To Get A Grow Tent Or Just Get Reflective Mylar?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by CannabisCrush, Jun 9, 2014.

  1. Obviously the grow tent would help out for smell (I would have a carbon filter and ventilation system. But I'm wondering if I really need the tent for a garage grow setup of about 15 plants.

  2. As long as you have enough light you dont need the tent it's only needed to keep light in and to control smell...

when your this hated, its hard to be loved.......

  3. In a grow tent you can better control your environment imo.. temp, humidity, complete darkness (hopefully) and insects. Not saying that an open area is a bad thing as long as everythings in check. Just my 2cents, hope everything works out for ya!

No tent, just hang lights and grow. I hang mylar around the plants to make it brighter but leave lots of spaces top and bottom for air flow

  5. yeah that makes more sense now that I think about it. it will help with controlling smell and humidity if I have a tent

  6. Either way you should have the light in your room completely contained.  You don't want light leaks giving you away and you need those periods of complete darkeness.  Both have their pros and cons.

Tent can be good because it can be taken down and stowed away easily and quickly in an organized manner. This is real nice and it turned out to pay off for me as I had to do an emergency 24 hour shut down and clear out before.  The cons I find with the tents are that I want to make maximum usage of my square footage so there is never any room to get in there and work with the plants.  Jam packed with plants.  It's a real pain especially if you have back problems.  I'll be building a room with poly and 2x2 next go around so I have room to work without killing my back.  Tents are also a little height restricted compared to ceiling heights as well.

A room can be built with black and white poly and 2"x2" studs for a fraction of the cost.  My 4x8 tent cost $450.  I can build the same room or slightly bigger for approximately $50.

Good for you building a real room. :D make it any size you want. I'm claustrophobic so I will never have a tent.

I have 2 whole basement bedrooms and have space to walk all the way around the plants. Also a spare room to dry in.

Fucked up back? Grow on tables sea of green style I have (2) 4 X 6 tables , just plywood on milk crates. I dont need 5 foot plants in the house that way.

My indoor will be all hydro from now on. Soil is a waste of my time when I have to pay the power company for artificial sun light.

    Happy growing!

  8. I bought a tent.. I use the frame and took the mylar off.. I used panda paper and built a flower room. The tent ran temps of 94 degrees.. Now its a cool breezy 82..

Tents run hot and i have a good intake exhaust setup

That's what I need.  Space to walk around the plants.  I want the same 4x8 area lit up but more room.  Also this way the cubic footage of the room will be bigger which means slightly cooler temps which in most cases never hurts.

  10. 400w hps week 3 of flowe. 2 bag seeds and. Auroua indica i cloned from a friend.

4 x 8 T5 for vegging works great! The tent runs in the 90s my light runs from midnight to noon. T5 runs 18/6

growing on tables with an adjustable height will save your back a ton.

My hydro table is a single milk crate high and my veg table sits up as high as a standard fold up card table.

  12. I think tents definitely have their applications. I wish I had an entire room just for growing :( I like my tent but growing in it is a PITA!! I actually had more fun in my small closet with no ventilation lol  :confused_2:

  13. I call tents a "GROW OVEN"  they would work best outdoor in the winter in an unheated garage for climate control to heat the space but cooling them is a cocksucker.

The veg set up in the open air is perfect. I would not box it in whatsoever,

  16. I use tents for a few reasons. I don't have a room I can dedicate to growing, I want things to be neat and orderly, I have a cat.

I would love to just have a dedicated grow room. I really thing this question depends on what your lifestyle is and what you have first.

Also flat non glossy white is probably a better pic than mylar for light. If only because it is cheap, and doesn't create hot spots.
