Is getting high just a dopamine rush?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by hundredgrand, Nov 26, 2012.

  1. According to some scientific websites they say that thc activates receptors in the brain which release dopamine. So is being high just dopamine making us feel good or something more? you get dopamine from eating having sex playing video games but none of those things feel like you're "high"... Sometimes weed almost feels spiritual is it really just a dopamine rush?

  2. It's most probably a mixture of high dopa-mine levels and other receptors on which the cannabinoids act on.

  3. Yeah it's the dopamine and some other stuff I can't find the scale but there's a graph out there that shows the different levels that drugs release that's why some drugs are so addicting because of how much dopamine the release its like stretching something out and it not really going back to its original shape and you need more of the drug to fill that open hole with dopamine but the levels of weed compared to like meth is soo much less. That's why it's a lot less addicting if any at all but that really depends on the person

  4. The dopamine release is minimal and probably not caused by the weed itself but by the brain's mental reaction to it. Unless your brand new to smoking, the brain has been trained to release reward signals when you smoke because it recognizes as something that is (or will lead to) pleasurable. However, do not be confused, this dopamine increase is NOTHING compared to those of certain unmentionables (stims).
