Is Capitalism needed?

  1. Does anyone think that Capitalism is an utterly fucked up system that we have all haphazardley found ourselves in?
    Or is everything just great.......

  2. Interesting, because lately I've been thinking the same thing. I've concluded that capitalism is too far one direction and communism is too far in the other direction. I've determined that socialism is seemingly the most stable and the hardest to corrupt.

A perfect example of how bad capitalism can be is the early 1900's, when a handful of people owned and managed large industries, and the laborers were underpaid, overworked, and recieved little or no worker's compensation. That is true capitalism: the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Think about most people that are loaded...they can never seem to have enough money and power, and will go to the edge to simply get more (they're never happy with what they've got). So they trade the worker's welfare for their benefit. Luckily, things have changed and it's not as easy to screw the workers over (minimum wage, even though it's pathetic right now), but I still think it's too capitalistic. Not enough of workers' money is regulated through the government.

Communism simply gives the government too much control over the people. When all the money flows through the government, there is too much room for corruption and blackmail. In this system, all the money is under the government's control, and the people are at the mercy of the government.

Keep in mind most countries do not operate this way, but these are the basic ideas of the two systems.

Socialism seems to be the good medium between the two economic systems. More money is regulated through the government than capitalism, but not as much as communism. Taxes are higher, but public educated is fully funded (college tuition costs less), roads are in better condition, and people have money to get on their feet (welfare). Yes, there will always be people living off of welfare like a bunch of leeches, but keep in mind there are people that actually use it to get somewhere.

Now, I know rich people like to argue that when a person gets rich, they should be rewarded for their hard work, and be taxed less than the middle class. My arguement is they ARE in fact rewarded. They have more money than 95% of the population, so why not invest in the society that got them where they are? That's exactly what socialism does. Yes, rich people get taxed more, but they help out everyone else that may be less fortunate in terms of their economic status. What's another $50,000 dollars when you're making millions per year? It's not a life or death situation, and I'm sure they'll live just fine...they might have to wait another month to get the Ferrari they wanted.

  3. Capitalism puts more of a focus on individual responsiblity and freedom. Less government regulations on things is better. Anything thing the government does or can do can be done better by the private sector. Education is one example of this.

Anyone who says rich should be taxed less is an idiot, but i dont believe in taxing them more eather. They shouldnt be punished for their success. I think if we have an income tax, it should be a flat rate, the person making minumum wage should pay the same %% as a person making $500,000 a year.

Socialism is a stepping stone to communisum. This will be debated im sure, but socialsim simply gives too much power to the government. Power currupts, and when the government gets MORE power, they become more currupt. Give me one example of a successful socialist country, or even an example of a country that has been socialist and hasnt converted to communism. NAZI is national socialist party. By taking more rights away from the citizens, socialsim makes it easier for a complete government takeover of your everyday life.

Throwing money at the poor has done nothing but create more poor. It is easy to say ah look at that poor person and use money stolen from the rich and give it to him, but what does that do for the poor person? It makes him become dependent on that free money. Noone says i wonder what personal decisions he had made that has led him to this point. Education is the key, teach the poor a skill, teach them to become useful members of society instead of throwing money at the porblem, because that is simply not working.

Also, dont hate on the wealthy so much. I noticed a negative tone in your post towards the rich, but they are the ones carrying this countries economy on their back, buying the cars, the houses. The wealthy business owners you hate are the ones providing and creating jobs. They are the ones giving to charity as well.

  4. Capitalism will, and does have it's problems, of course there will be corruption just like any economic system will be corrupted. What Socialism does is remove the corruption from the board rooms of business, to the halls of government, where there will not only be corruption, but soveriegn immunity as well.

  5. I didn't meen to suggest that the only other viable option to capitalism is a huge shift to the left. It seems to me that any political ideology once in practice can easily be corrupted through money and individual greed.

Communism in the Marxist sense still has not been implemented succesfully in any country, it has always been doctored to the individual leader of that country. I still think it is a wholly workable idea (if done properly). Saying that my political leanings are towards anarchy, unfortunately saying such a thing quickly brings someone to say "it will never work" I think the reason it would never work is the lack of intelligent people in the world and the increase of greedy ones (due to capitalism), annarchy is scary to people because it means giving up what was worked for, saved for, things that are not really needed, utter material shit. No capitalism no McDonalds, no Corporate fucking law, no yuppies, no networking, there would be no need for people to be artificial. People will always find a problem with being completely happy. If people want to detach itself from society, I for one am all for it.

  6. Without capitalism almost none of the things you enjoy on a day to day basis would even exist. Give props. I know capitalism is all about greed, but it leads to innovation.

  7. Yup. Capitalism and war...the most powerful engines of invention.

  8. Add necessity to that list.

  9. Yeah...and that.

    And weed :smoke:
