I am very new to the high quality glass scene but $50 seems really steep considering the number of people who actually have subscriptions is limited to those willing to spend this money. Basically I can't bring myself to spend $50 on a forum that basically has limited the number of buyers and sellers because of the high subscription cost. For the past month I've wanted to buy a Peyote Pillar and just can't get one online. I could probably buy one on borro and save whatever money the subscription costs but god $50 just to have access to other people like myself seems like a massive rip off.
Boromarket is very worth it. Idk if it's worth it if you just want to get a pillar and stop collecting though. It's great for finding new art that you dont see in most places. But if you're worried about $50 I don't think youre ready for bm.
Working. A lot of the time people trade tubes too. The boro market is worth it if you are a collector, hell...to be honest most of the time the tubes you find on there will be AT LEAST $50 less than buying them from a headshop or online. Most of the time your first purchase will be worth the money you spent. Plus you will be able to find pieces that are no longer in circulation. If you're questioning the payment to join then it is most likely not right for you.
Bleh it has nothing to do with the amount of money just the principal of paying 50$ to site that basically is a very refined version of ebay
I understand, and I do see where you're coming from. However, personally I just feel that that principal is void once you get your money's worth out of it. By charging $50 to join they are ensuring that only enthusiasts will be joining and no one that is going to be dicking people around.
Oh its not only that its like how secretive the site is before you buy the subscription like even if you register you can't open any thread to actually see the prices of whats for sale so you have no inclination of if buying the subscription will actually get you the piece you want etc...
The elitist attitude in this thread is infectious. I love how the fall back crutch statement is "if you can't afford $50 than you probably can't afford BM". The OP already replied back stating it's not about the money, it's the principle. BM serves a niche audience, and they can obviously afford to turn away window shoppers by charging for access. Acting like having $50 to blow on access into the forum makes you somehow better than the next guy is stupid. I spend $50/yr on a magazine subscription that people on the shelf can't read because it comes in a non-conspicuous sealed sleeve. Does that make me better than them? P.S. I subscribe to BM....

I'm not interested in buying any heady glass just scientific pieces... Is BORO geared more towards heady pieces?
BM is great. Theres plenty of members and there are new listing everyday. You can find quite a few good deals on pieces if you don't mind being patient, but most pillars seem to go for about retail price.
Thank you for your response this is exactly what I figured would happen if I subscribed I'd go looking for a pillar and see this ~~ Thanks for saving me some cash
Some of you guys took what I said wrong. I wasn't trying to be an "elitist" or anything like that. I was just saying that if you're real serious about buying heady/scientific glass then the principle of paying $50 one time wouldn't necessarily matter to you. Just like ebay...it's not free to sell an item. How do you think markets like that are ran?
