Is a water bottle plastic bong with a glass or Metallic down steam safer?

    I've never heard of anyone dying from using a plastic water bottle as a bong or getting sick from using a plastic water bottle as a bong after using it for one time before disposing it. If using a plastic down stem that will melt due to being exposed to direct flame, why not counter it and make it safe by using a glass or a metallic downstem? That way no plastic is melted ans no toxic shit released?

    Either would be fine. Don't let it get too hot though. I'd use crushed ice if possible. How will the stem be fixed to the plastic bottle? That has to be heat resistant as well.

    I use my butane torch to heat up a mail opener and make a hole in the plastic bottle and then I cover with duck tape and make a hole in that and the down stem fits snug in place all the way. Again the plastic bong will only be for a one time then dispose after taking out the down stem.

    Or I could do the waterfall method.

    I created a gravity bong one hitter using a plastic bottle with a brass hose fitting as the bowl but no down stem; the brief ignition and burn doesn't risk melting or releasing toxins. I've used it for about 20 years with no decrease in lung volume or other signs of comprise.
