I am looking to get the 18.8 EHLE 500ml Ice Hexagon foot and ive heard the thickness is only 3 - 3.2 mm. Would it be that bad for daily use and the ocassional smoke with 3-5 ppl. I also want to know if an EHLE teardrop ashcather on that would be too heavy for the glass. I want a small bong to stash easily so i think this size is good, but would the ashcatcher fit nicely and securly?
For a 14" high bong i think the 3mm would be an alright thickness for the height, its the ashcatcher im worried bout cause id rather clean the catcher more often than the bong,. The main use is for myself, i might just let others toke from it a few times when its new, people rarely come by me to smoke anyway (live with parents still).
Yeah should be alright if you're careful with your glass. 3mm just means it wont be forgiving. And pretty sure the ashcatcher would hold up on that. They usually do.
I got a 3mm 250ml EHLE, i've dropped it numerous times knocked it over etc. and it still looks as good as the day i got it. Just take care of it like you would any bong and enjoy it man!
First time im hearing bout this brand, SYN. Are they good? I am seeing this 4mm, 18.8mm ice model for $99.
EHLE is much better quality than SYN (nothing against SYN though). A 3.2mm EHLE straight tube will always be at least 3.2mm. That SYN might be < 3mm where it's blown out at the bottom. Get a 5mm EHLE if you can, if not, 3.2 is fine.
really chris? from what i've been able to gather about syn, the artist goes by Fat Mike, and he pays a lot of attention to detail and quality assurance. I'd put syn way above the german prodo line of EHLE, though both companies are of very good quality.
I wouldn't say EHLE is better quality then SYN. SYN straight kills it, Fat Mike is a boss. His higher end tubes blow EHLE out of the water.
Again nothing against SYN, they put out great stuff. But for simple tubes, EHLE has them trumped. If you guys don't believe me, go hold an EHLE and a SYN in your hands (I have!). EHLE uses the same german glass as roor.de and the things are blown with extremely tight tolerances. Nobody (besides roor.de) puts out better quality tubes imo. Don't let the low prices throw you off. And for the record, "prodo" just means it wasn't made for anyone specific... it's still hand blown with amazing attention to detail. It's just going to a shop to re-sell instead of directly to a person.
I'm pretty sure all major tube company's use the same type of glass EHLE and RooR.de don't use some type of magical glass that makes all their tubes better then everyone else. Just because the tube came from Germany doesn't mean it better quality. I own an EHLE and i've held and hit friends SYN's i would definitely say at the very least that SYN is on EHLE's level if not better. SYN also makes other types of bongs besides just simple straight tubes.
Well that and that the glass is not one of a kind. Production just indicates that the item is produced to supply for resale and not fully custom... individual... or a single artistic work. A tube can be production.... and customized for an individual... like the ROOR.de tubes you can order. The prodo options you can add are all predetermined... two people could make the same one.... like it's customizable prodo. I honestly can't say because I've never placed the tubes together. I don't believe SYN Bubbles are blown out thin though. Look at the base... you can see it's more than 3mm... so I don't doubt 4. I've seen many a 3.2 mm tube... the SYN's base is definitely thicker.
Ok to sum things up both bongs are ice bongs with 18.8 joints. The EHLE is 3mm thick, 14" high. The SYN is 4mm thick, 12" high with a bushing diffuser. To me the SYN seems like a decent choice all round. BTW this is the first bong ever im gonna get.
That's what I was referring to in so many words. But just because it isn't one of a kind (just like most SYN tubes) doesn't mean it can't be extremely well made. Sure the base is thick, I'm talking about the side of the bubble where the diameter is largest. You can't increase the diameter of a cylinder without decreasing the thickness of the cylinder wall. Simple gravity, bro.
Good point... lol. I completely overlooked that. I wonder if anyone makes a bubble that overcomes that dilemma...
You have to blow the bubble out of 7 or 9mm glass and then weld it to the 5mm neck. I do not believe a $99 syn ice bubble employs this procedure.
