Irrigation systems - discussion thread

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by WeedGrowsOnTrees, Dec 24, 2021.

  1. What type of irrigation system do you have? Drip, soaker, sprinkler, etc.

Show us your irrigation system or explain. Why did you go the route you went?

    I’ll go first,
I have a drip irrigation system, DIY with two emitters at a rate of 2 gallons per hour for each pot. It served me pretty well but now I’m thinking of making a more elaborate and efficient one. Either changing to soaker hose or just do an upgrade to my current setup, what do ya think?

  2. I dont have one but it might be a smart investment down the road.

  3. Its not even really the investment part but it just makes it makes the watering process so much easier and headache free.
I really dont like watering plants mainly because ocd so this just makes it easier haha

  4. I’d love to figure out how to effectively automate my watering. I spend at least 6-8 hours a week just dealing with watering scenarios right now. I’ve spoken with several growers and none of them seem to have much good to say about them. Seems that everything that they try ends up being a big PITA.
I did try the Bluesoak tape that Blumat makes awhile ago. I couldn’t get it dialed in and had a flood. But I’ve heard of big grows using them and doing well. Maybe I need to look into those again

  5. LOL. I know it's not what you mean but I have a 4-zone irrigation system by Hunter with all sorts of nozzles, it's fun to program. I am considering running a 3/8" line for the greenhouse. That will save me 20 minutes a day...

  6. This! Spending 6-8 hours a week just dealing with watering scenarios. This is why I had to make the switch to automatic irrigation.
Also idk why people say its a PITA with automatic irrigation. I can argue the opposit as hand watering is a greater PITA

  7. Right ON!

  8. Yeah but unless your really drunk, you never have an accidental flood.

  9. Only amateurs. using shitty systems sold by people who rip off stoners, have a flood. If you want to irrigate, use Rainbird or Hunter. Or even the Chinese shit is very preferable to the garbage that stoners buy. Sorry if this gets up your nose, but it is the truth.

  10. I can program anything from a minute to an hour, set days of the week, hell it even has a rain detector. I can adjust flow rate to equalise lines, use drop by drop or a small radius spray head...

  11. Amateur crap.

  12. Well I’m not gonna give you a red X , but I disagree about Blumat being amateur crap. It’s a well thought out system that works well.
I may be an amateur, but I’ll stick to hand watering for now.
I’m curious though, with your super bitchin’ automated set up what happens when you are away and the power goes out? Or you get a clogged hose?
Blumat needs no power, and it waters when the plants want it instead cramming it down its throat.
Nah…. The hell with it, you get a red X:blush:

  13. Id rather water by hand than spend a billion dollars on a top of the line system. I water once every 2-4 days and it takes me maybe an hour and thats with taking a close look at the girls and training them.

  14. If the power goes out?,No problem the settings are battery backed up. Hose clog? No, it has built in filters. You know, professional gardeners rely on these systems, they are foolproof and reliable. No, it's not for a few plants in pots. It's for when you have a dozen or more. For a few plants in pots:
Here is something that could be used

  15. And when you go on vacation?

  16. I just want to add on here, that my irrigation setup is for four plants and not for a huge setup.

Did it take some hard thought and planning to set it up? Absolutely
Was it stressful at first? Sure
Did it cost me an arm and leg? Definitely not. $100 maybe
Ongoing costs? About $20 every new grow
Did it make life easier? Damn right

  17. In line filters get clogged all the time and any electrical system can leave you high and dry.
    Not my first rodeo bud.
    A dozen or more… lol.

  18. I'm going to buy one of those like the link I posted. I could run a line from the existing system, but that's already set up for watering the lawn, trees, shrubs etc. I'll report back when I get it running. Watering by hand is a PITA when you're growing two dozen plants.

  19. Hasnt been an issue yet but in the event that it is, I can get someone to water them once or twice. Ive got my watering system as simplified as it gets.
