Instapot Pressure Cannabutter

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Nematode128, Jul 6, 2019.

  1. Has anyone made Cannabutter with the pressure cooker setting on the instant pot? How did it turn out? I'm curious to try it out but I've seen people say anywhere from 20-40 mins on high pressure or to run it twice on low pressure. Would running it through the pressure cooker cycle twice make a difference?

  2. The advantage that pressure cookers have over regular cookers is due to the fact that water boils at higher temperature under pressure, so pressure cookers can cook food faster at the higher temperature.

Pressure cookers have no advantage when heating cannabis, because cooking cannabis is best done without any water. If we want the temperature higher, we just turn up the oven.

  3. Yeah but if water never comes in direct contact with either the Cannabis or the butter and the temp stays low enough that the thc doesn't evaporate how harmful can it be? From the one high times article they were acting like the instapot was the future. Just wanted to try it out since some people on Reddit were saying it's just as good as puttin in a slow cooker for hours

  4. Bump looking for more input on the pressure cooker method

  5. Do you know how to do a simple Google search? Pages and pages of info and videos out there.

Just type in Pressure cooker decarb.

    Here's 1 video:

  6. The sealed jar decarb is good if you must limit the smell like apartment living but is not the best method as it traps to much moisture in the herb. For the best decarb for edibles the herb need to be stone dry. All that trapped moisture limits the oil extraction as the oil can't displace the water protecting the trichomes.
Ask somebody like me who makes and takes massive amounts of edible cannabis oil every day how to make the strongest possible meds from a given base.
THC doesn't evaporate. Enough heat for long enough can change it to CBN but it is still present.

All the kitchen gadgets are a waste of cash IME.
A toaster oven, A stainless steel cat food dish is all you need.
Used toaster oven from the local thrift store = $5.00
    New = under $20.00
    Cat food dish = $2.97
    Oven thermometer = $9.50

Back from decarb it's darkened a bit and it's had the whole neighborhood smelling of something delightful.

The usual amounts of oil and lecithin.

I work with dry ice kief to make my edible oil with and dry as it is to start with it gets the same open air 40 minutes at 240 F to be it's most activated and strongest in effects.

I make this stuff about every 2-3 months as the last harvest gets cured and ready to shake out.
Hundreds of Capsules per session and thousands made over the last several years.
I've tried every possible variation in decarb and processing to achieve the strongest, longest lasting meds I can make.

  7. No need to be rude. I'm very aware on how to Google search. I'm not looking how to learn how to do it, that parts easy. I'm looking for feedback from people who have used this method and how their end result was. Isn't that the point of a forum to have discussion? Can't have a discussion with a YouTube video lol

  8. Un-pressurized Instapot would seem to be better than crockpot because of Instapot's temp control.
But using pressure for either decarb or infusion seems to offer no advantages over traditional methods.
The best strategy in this thread is BrassNwood's, which can be modified to use for flower.

Instead of Instapot being "the future," I think it's this device, which decarbs and infuses.

  9. Ah, sincere apologies...I'll try to blame it on lack of sleep and Mercury being in retrograde, even if it's just really me being rude. Honestly, I wasn't aware of how crass I came off until I read it again. Sorry!

  10. I use the insta pot but dont pressurize it. Heat up the butter and some water in it on saute then once melted turn it to keep warm.

Put your weed in and stir every now and then while leaving on keep warm mode. Leave in for at least 45 mins to a couole hours (low and slow).

Heating too fast will break down the thc and whatnot.

Filter then throw in fridge. Pour water out once the butter solidifies on top.

For reference I'm a chemist lol. GL

  11. No worries, it happens to the best of us, apology accepted.

  12. I tried that using method in the instapot minus the water. Worried I may have fucked it up a little bit though. Made the mistake of trying to make butter after an 11 hr HR shift at work and ended up falling asleep for about 2.5 hrs -.- when I went to stir there was huge clumps on the bottom of my pot so idk how much of a issue that caused. I have the Ip-duo v3 so my keep warm setting is right below 170°

  13. Just keep stirring. Even 5 hours is fine with low temps. Lower heat is better and that takes longer. Adding water both cleans it a bit (canabbanoids aren't polar so doesn't waste good stuff) and makes sure it doesn't get above boiling so you waste less. Very easy to separate

side note you still need to decarb unless you're using vaped weed or those rosin pucks.
