Inline fan without filter?

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by 4klaunch, Dec 30, 2019.

  1. Hello,

I recently removed the filter from my inline fan as it must have got all clogged up with that white stuff that the humidifier spits out.

What I was wondering was, will the humidity and white stuff (calcium) im guessing cause damage to the inline fan?

    Cheers

  2. Huh? Your humidifier spits out white stuff? First ive heard that one mate lol.
    Also, lets analyse that question.
Will the humidity damage my fan?

Are you in veg or bloom?
If youre in veg do you really need the fan on?
If your in bloom, do you really need the humidifier on?

  3. You guys must all live in the states or something lol I live in Alberta where the humidity is like nothing....

Everything You Need to Know About White Dust | HVAC.com very normal thing....pretty sure its just the calcium in the water.

I am in Bloom. If i was in veg i would need the fan on as my 2.5 x 2.5 tent would get to hot.... and as such it sux the humidity out of the air..... Also the fan is vented outside to prevent smells so yes its a must.

Humidifier on in bloom prob not a necessity but I do like to have the humidity above 30 at least, without its about 23% or below. Only reason I am asking about the fan damage is that all the mineral deposits "white dust" clogged my filter and barley any air was being moved out.

    Cheers

  4. Yeah, it's calcium, or mostly calcium. Clean the fan with baking soda/water occasionally to prevent buildup. Also be aware that the gunk that clogged up your filter is now gonna be clogging up your ducts, so they'll need to be cleaned or replaced eventually.

  5. Thanks Didactylos. Clean the big inline fan with baking soda/water? Hmm any tips on how to get into all the small / closed off places in it?

  6. Lol if you have ever done a search for humidifiers you’ve read about “white stuff”. It’s Mineral buildup... op best to use RO or distilled water. It’ll help stop that

  7. Get yourself an RO buddy and use that water in your humidifiers. You can run that sucker non-stop for a month or more without any buildup (besides mold!).

  8. Yeah, defintely Calcium build up. My first winter in this state growing I clogged a carbon filter using tap water in my humidifier.

  9. Any recommendations on a RO device seen a few on Amazon.

  10. RO Buddie is by far the cheapest. It gets bad reviews because it makes water REALLY slowly, but you can't beat it for like $60-70. When new, water tests near zero ppm with RO buddie.
