Please read my post carefully as something may not make sense and I have multiple questions I have a 4x2x5.7 ft Grow tent with 6 inch ducting (25ft) and a 400 w MH/HPS a/c hood. I was about to buy a 435 CFM 'Hurricane' inline fan with a matching 6 inch Phresh carbon filter(400 CFM) but now I'm having second thoughts. I know I should only need 165 CFM fan to do the job so maybe since my tent is so small I should go with a 4in fan/filter and get a 4-6 inch ducting adapter so I can duct to my lights? I would rather stick with the 400 CFM 6in combo, I figured I could just keep it on like 50% with speed controller? Not sure would though appreciate if the community here could help me decide b4 I buy. esp since the 4in Hurricane fan is 175 CFM and the phresh filter 200 CFM would probably put me below 165 CFM I would need to look at a new brand of fans and have no idea where to start. I live in the USA if that helps with brands
Mate always go the bigger fan and just get the speed controller, that way you are prepared for the worst and might not need another one if you upgrade your tent. That is unless noise is an issue?
Not sure if noise would be an issue. Probably not. Someone else told me the same thing so I'm just going to go with the 6 inch 400 cfm combo. Thanks for the help me matey
for a cheep fan controller...a router speed control from harbor freight is the exact same as a 'speedster' fan controller. The harbor freight model is much cheeper. They're the black ones with the black/green/red dial adjustment.
Did you see the fan link I posted? A lot is here: http://www.just4growers.com/stream/ventilation-and-environmental-control/how-to-calculate-the-size-of-your-extraction-fan.aspx Even if you expand you could use the smaller fan for a drying room or box. You could go big early and prepare for expansion. Also after research brand names (most are the same fan internals with various casings like turbos) and check amazon.
I didn't see the fans you linked. I use Amazon for all of more ordering. I'm looking at the Hurricaine and Hydrofarm fans but each has a couple bad reviews on noise and not working with speed controllers so I still don't know what to get. I'm rdy to start !!
I guess I could go with this http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-Active-Air-inch-In-Line/dp/B002JQ14F8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-2&keywords=hydro+farm+6+inch+inline
Do you have a local garden shop or hydro shop? they usually run fans and can hook them up. Go to lowes or home depot and ask them to plug them up so you can actually hear them.
I got the hydrofarm 6 inch fan. My carbon filter came also. I didn't realize it was gonna be this heavy. I tried to hang it by myself It slide down from the top of the pole to this position where it cannot go down any further (the carbon filter zip tie snagged on the metal button for the frames poles). I am the type of person when I envision something I want to come close as possible to it. I always envisioned my carbon filter up top. My buddy is coming over today and could have him help me hang it higher what do you think? I ran outta zip ties so I will need to buy new ones to do this
I found these 2 Edsal racks 2x2 and they fit up top perfect should have plenty of support to move carbon filter up top . I wish I had gone with the air cooled tube instead of the hood tho for my small set up. Not much room at all with that big ass hood reflector but I like the hood better than the tube for some reason and was thinking about future expansion.
Thought of using bungie cords/straps for the lights? Also look at using the PVC at intersecting pipes for support. Most tents can handle about 100lbs of hanging material or more. Try to minimize or eliminate the bends in the duct. That link I post shows how bends affect your fan's efficiency. hang it high is perfect. If you set it up right you can place it 1/2 between the bottom of the and the top. Te air is hottest around the bulb but as you know it rises. There are some experts in here, outside of that the link is very informative. You did not make it out to a local store I assume?
No the only store here the guy is a crook would have charged me around 800 bucks for this set up I have spent only 360 so far
Ahh, I thought I asked you to take a look at one to get a feel for what you were buying. I did not mean to imply to buy it. I buy local just to support our local shops. We pay a little more but we have made some good friends in the process. yeah, stay away from crooks, even online.
