Indoor winter veg topping

  1. In short I'm growing 10 photos indoors for next outdoors season. I'm using all organics building the soil food web. My plan is to top and root prune all winter long until about a week before I start hardening them off for the outdoor beds around mid may or June 1st.

However I've seen that excessive topping can hurt overall bud size. Does this apply to extended vegetative state plants so much? These are from clones of flowering shiskaberry which were from a big bushy plant this past season which was my first.
